For the brief i was given BCC5 as my radio station to find a 15 second clip from. I started my research by looking into what bbc5’s audience is. They have 6.76 million listener’s each week and seems to be aimed at the slightly older generation and men who like sports.

My clip i have chosen is about Rewired State so this i have done some further research into what exactly it is which i think will help me develop idea’s for my kinetic type.

i found this quote which i though would be very good when developing my idea’s

At the end of the hack, this powerhouse of talent present a number of prototype applications/websites/widgets/visualisations that demonstrate a range of solutions.

The clip i chose is about an event called National Hack the Government Day, which invovles taking government data and creating prototype tools, serverices and applications.

Type Experiment 1

This idea developed from my inital idea of having a drawn out type face and to record or capture the drawing of it too, while trying this out i found it too hard to draw that slow while taking the pictures on my own so i had the idea to find a white board and first draw my type out and then slowly wipe away abit of each letter each time a photo was taken and then to reverse it on the timeline. My first problem with this was with the white board as if i tried to use flash it would show a up on the board and without the flash it looked dull, the second problem was acually drawing the type onto the board it just did not give the clean effect i was after for my audience.

Type Experiment 2

For this experiment i wanted to use stop frame animation and use cut out news paper text as my chosen type. After my last tutorial i decided to not go ahead with this idea as my audience needed a cleaner typeface to be displayed.

Type Experiment 3

This experiment is based on motion tracking using boujou and after effects for the type, i originally used a video which i con-verted into an image sequence for boujou. The idea was to have the type move off from the paper onto the table and up the wall, i thought this was interesting as i hadnt used motion tracking before but i found the trouble was acualy making the type look like it was acually on the table and not digitally lay-ered.

Development

From hear i had a tutorial with eva and mary and decided to move away from my experiments and refer back to my re-search and incorporate it into a clean animation on after effects. I decided to recreate my storyboard thinking more about the au-dience to BBC 5. As the show is aimed at the older generation i thought it would be best to display the type in a clear informa-tive way. I have decided to use helvetica as my type because it is universal and easy to read which is what the audience would want.

I have used a simple backgroud with a slight radial gradient. I have also considered to have each section of type that rotates a different colour from the previous one.
