JULIUS HM is an extremely easy calving Blaarkop bull with a calving survey of 104 and very good calf

survival rates. First calves are born in Dorset have confirmed this and his calves are up and about in no time.

It is a fact that the Groninger Blaarkop breed are recognised for their very short gestation length and in the

case of Julius he has produced UK born calves from HF & Jersey X Bred dairy cows up to 10 days before the

predicted calving date! He is an ideal choice for use in the last week of A.I. in block calving herds & Julius

HM has very fertile semen also.

JULIUS HM ( RF) Grashoek

These calves have all a distinctive facial markings of the Blaarkop enabling them to be identified easily. The

male calves will be highly suited to a grass finishing system, the female calves are ideal for entering the

dairy herd or for a suckler enterprise. These cattle are noted for their hardiness, they have black pigmented

hooves and a winter coat that has a slight curl enabling them to withstand rain and conditions cold better.

High milk protein and good levels of milk fat are traits of the breed and Julius daughters are very good in

this regard, Julius is an A2/A2 bull and is AB Kappa Casein & 110 for daughter fertility and 103 for hoof

health

an ideal bull for end of block use, we are expecting between 7 and

11 days real time reductions in calving dates when used over other

dairy breeds! He has therefore a P.I. of -98 for gestation length

Above & below is pictured dam Mathilde 107 at nine years of age,

FERTILITY

Research recently conducted in Holland looked at fertility in lactating dairy cattle and resulted

in presenting a simple table of results for fertility within different breeds.

All breeds have been presented on the Black & White Holstein-Friesian base cow and

therefore positions the B&W Holstein Friesian at 100 which is the breed average.

Below you will find the breed averages listed in order of most fertile first.
