Objects….summary

AimThe Object strand will deliver practical skills for

working with objects in the heritage sector.

BriefParticipants in this strand will be introduced to

traditional archiving techniques used in the heritage sector to account for historical artefacts displaced from their original context and explore new ways to handle these museum objects and information surrounding them in the digital age.

Material for individual projects will come from the Nemi Collections at Nottingham Castle Museum and Galleries and the archives of the Herculaneum Conservation Project.

The portfolio comprises the Nottingham collection of artefacts from the Roman sanctuary of Diana at Nemi in Italy and the 19th-century documentation of its archaeological exploration, with a view to create outputs to be showcased in the “Treasures of Nemi” exhibition to be held at Nottingham Castle in Summer 2013.

(2) HerculaneumThe portfolio comprises the archival materials of the

Herculaneum Conservation Project, with a view to further their endeavours in preserving this important Campanian site.
