• Unit 1: Living with the Physical Environment - 1hr 30min examination (35%)

• Unit 2: Challenges in the Human Environment – 1hr 30min examination (35%)

• Unit 3: Geographical Applications - 1hr and 15min examination (30%)

• Skills will be assessed in all three written exams. Ordnance Survey maps or

other map extracts may be used in any of the three exams.

Why choose Computer Science?Engaging and contemporaryOCR have talked to companies like Microsoft, Google and Cisco, organisations like Computing At School (CAS), plus teachers and academics.

• Component 01 – Computer Systems

• An examined unit and makes up 40% of the assessment total.

• Component 02 – Computational Thinking, Algorithms and Programming

• A written exam, focused on computational thinking and algorithms. Students will be tested on the elements of computational thinking and logic. They are principally assessed as to their ability to write, correct and improve algorithms.

• Component 03 – Programming Project (non-exam assessment)

• This component is the non-exam assessment where candidates will be challenged by a range of exciting and engaging tasks to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned.

The Food Investigation AssessmentA scientific food investigation which will assess the learner’s knowledge, skills and understanding in relation to scientific principles underlying the preparation and cooking of food

The Food Preparation AssessmentPrepare, cook and present a menu which assesses the learner’s knowledge, skills and understanding in relation to the planning, preparation, cooking and presentation of food. These assessments will be externally set

Students are expected to purchase and supply their own ingredients for every practical lesson

GCSE Media Studies

The GCSE Media Studies course allows students to develop an understanding of:

• Media products such as film, television, radio and online media

• Audiences and how they use media

• Organisations and how/why they make media

Students get the opportunity to develop practical skills in video production and desktop publishing.

• The course is currently 60% practical and 40% exam (although this may change under the current Government)
