Katherine Bean, Membership Director

Now is an exciting time to be a member of The Golf Club of Amelia Island! As your new membership director, I have been welcomed warmly by many of you in my first three months and look forward to meeting all of you. I have lived on Amelia Island for thirty years and graduated from high school here. In one way or another I have spent my career in the hospitality industry with the last two years at The Amelia Island Club on Omni Amelia Island Plantation as the Catering Director. Before working at the Ocean Club, I spent 15 years with the plantation working in reservations, as the golf tee time girl and then in sales and catering. I love Amelia Island and am excited to be a part of this club and such a great team.

As we move into 2013, we are proud to announce Membership by Invitation. Through this pro-gram we will have sponsors for each new member. As a Club Ambassador you will be asked to join the prospective new members for a round of golf, on the tennis courts or to enjoy dining in the club. For many, joining a club is about the friendships you form, and this program will help to ensure that prospective members become life-long members. I have had an opportu-nity to discuss this program with a few members, however if you would be interested in being a Club Ambassador, please contact me at (904) 277-8015 ext. 13 or via e-mail at [email protected]. As we announced in December, Leslie Clemons is the club’s Social Coordinator. We are ex-cited for the future of our social calendar and hope you will be too. The Social Committee has held their first meeting and is working on some great ideas. It is not too late to join the Social Committee; if interested, please contact Leslie at (904) 277-8015 ext. 14. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, February 6th at 2:30 pm. Or, if unable to join the committee and you do have a suggestion or idea you would like us to consider, please e-mail Leslie at [email protected]. As we continue to enhance the value of your membership, we are offering a Trail Fee program to Full Golf members. The trail fee allows you to play as much golf as you like during the year without having to pay a cart fee...$2,400 per individual for the year and $4,800 per family for the year. This means if you play more than 96 rounds as an individual or 192 rounds as a fam-ily, the Trail Fee is the deal for you! Thank you for your continued support, my door is always open, please feel free to stop by anytime. BE SURE TO CHECK OUT OUR NEW WEBSITE, WWW.GOLFCLUBOFAMELIA.COM, NEW PICTURES, NEW INFORMATION.

Barry Shuman,Golf Course Superintendant

Happy New Year to everyone from golf maintenance. I have now been your course superintendent for over six months and feel very fortunate to be a part of this wonderful golf community. I am still learning about the course and hopefully ready to our biggest challenges. One of our main challenges are the greens, therefore we are working harder to make them roll faster, smoother and be more consistent on a daily basis. To achieve this goal, we will be topdressing, double mowing, grooming and verticutting on a schedule that will limit interference with play. During the past months we have also made improvements in the maintenance department. Concert Golf has invested in a new fleet of equipment which will en-

able us to maintain and improve the condition of the course in a more efficient and productive manner. In the middle of February we will be applying an application of fertilizer and pre-emergent to the entire course to prevent spring and summer weeds from germinating. Also, we are on a schedule of spraying fertilizer on the fairways and tees approximately every three weeks. This process is called spoon feeding and keeps the turf growing at a more even and consistent rate, we are already on a schedule where we spray the greens weekly with an application of fertil-izer. If you have any questions regarding the course, please feel free to contact me at 277-4292 or e-mail me at [email protected] you for your continued support.
