6. Operation6.1 Principle Functions

1. Normal operation 2. Backwater operation3. Wastewater disposal during

backwater

As backwater occurs, the free hanging flapis forced closed due to the pressure of thebackwater and provides a complete sealagainst the back-up of wastewater into all ofthe Pumpfix® F protected areas.

During times of backwater the Pumpfix® F pro-tects a building against the back-up of waste-water while at the same time disposing of itswaste. This is possible because of an opticalsensor and integrated sewage pump locatedwithin the Pumpfix® F. As a buildingʼs plumbingfixtures are drained during times of backwaterthe wastewater level rises inside the piping sy-stem and the Pumpfix® F. This is sensed by theoptical probe which activates the cutting pump. The pump intakes the wastewater, maceratesthe solids and pumps against the pressure ofthe backwater. The integrated free hanging flapprevents the grey water or sewage from flowingback into the building.

During normal conditions the Pumpfix® Ffunctions as a standard backwater valve asshown in the ʻNormal Operationʼ illustrationabove. The force of the free flowing waste-water pushes the free hanging flap open andallows the waste water to pass unhinderedto a public sewer line or a private sewagesystem.

the pump start delay times press the ̒ ALAR-Mʼ button. Each time the ʻALARMʼbutton is pressed, additional time will beadded to the pump start delay time. Theenterred times can be determined by lookingat the blinking LEDs and checking with thetable below. When the desired pump startdelay time has been enterred press theʻPUMPING / TEST PUMPʼ button to save thenew setting. The new ʻPump start delayʼtimes will be confirmed by a two tonedaudible signal. If within 20 seconds thechanges are not saved by pressing theʻPUMPING / TEST PUMPʼ button, thePumpfix® F will automatically save theprevious ʻPump start delayʼ (this will beconfirmed by a single tone audible signal). The Pumpfix® F is delivered pre-programmedwith a pump start delay time of 1 second.

Setting to either ʻFinish Controlledʼ or ʻStartControlledʼ modes.

The Pumpfix® F can be programmed tooperate in either ʻFinish Controlledʼ or ʻStartControlledʼ modes. In the Finish Controlledpump setting mode, the optical probesenses the build-up of wastewater in thedrainage pipe and activates the Pumpfix® Fwhich will begin pumping after the program-med delay start time has elapsed. In thismode the pump will continue to run for theprogrammed period of time after thewastewater level has fallen below the opticalsensor level. In the Start Controlled pumpsetting mode, the optical probe senses thebuild-up of wastewater in the drainage pipeand activates the Pumpfix® F which willbegin pumping after the programmed delaystart time has elapsed. In this mode thepump will run for the programmed period oftime and then shut off. If there is still waste-water above the sensor level the pump will
