REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF KENNY HOHMAN

On Feb. 27th 1925, Kenneth Roger Hohman was born to Benjamin William Hohman and Myrtle Marion (Andersen) Hohman in Watertown MN, the second of two sons. They later moved to Pelican Rapids, MN, where Kenny graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1943. Upon graduation, Kenny entered the U.S, Army, and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was stationed in Leyte Island, Phillipines and later in Hirosaki, Japan. After discharge, he attended Minnesota Business College, and joined his father in running the Pelican Telephone Company. He married Dolores Audrey Hanson on August 13, 1948, together they had four children. From 1954 – 1957, Kenny and his brother owned and operated Hohman Lumber Yard in Shakopee, MN. After selling the lumber yard, Kenny and his family moved back to Pelican Rapids to raise their family and once again assist his father in the running of the telephone company. After the death of his father, Kenny and his brother, along with their sons, owned and operated Hohman Telephone Co., until his retirement in 1986. Kenny’s wife, Dolores passed away in 1985, he later married Marilynn Rogers. They were married for 19 years, and resided in Fargo, ND, until her death in 2005. Kenny was an avid fisherman and duck hunter. His favorite place to fish, or just hang out was at Lake Crystal, near Pelican Rapids. While in high school, Kenny was an accomplished basketball and football player. He continued to follow Pelican Rapids athletics, the MN Twins and MN Vikings through-out his life. Kenny and Dee loved to dance and they spent many evenings “cutting a rug”, with dear friends Virgil and Agnes. He loved dogs and had a real sweet tooth, a favorite was Tootsie Rolls. Kenny dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. To him, family meant everything. Kenny was a quiet man, never seeking the spotlight for himself. On May 17th, 2017, after a short illness, under the care of Lakeland Hospice in Fergus Falls, MN, with loving family by his side, he restfully left his earthly home and went to heaven. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Kenny is survived by his four children: Barbara (Mark) Michels, Pelican Rapids, MN, Cynthia (Dick) Potter, Chesterfield, MO., Gregory, and fiancé, Denell Bauer, Fergus Falls, MN., Stephen (Liz) Hohman, Keystone, SD. Eight grandchildren: Nicholle, Matt, Adam, Ben, Laura, Michelle, Josh, and Marisa. 12 great-grandchildren and special friend, Marion Araskog. He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Ben, his beloved wife, Dee, his wife Marilynn, and his brother, Wally.
