    NEWS IN BRIEF

  • Lusk News Your Town My Town

    New Community College for Lusk

As Chairperson of the interim new community college in Lusk I am delighted that the college will be opening itsdoors for the first time on September. Most people are aware that while holding the position of Mayor of Fingal Iwas able to get the Council to offer the land for post primary education in Lusk to the Department of Education whoresponded positively to a site that had the relevant services available.

Although the community college was granted the patronage the VEC offered two places on the board of management to educate together which have been accepted. The new board reflects the opinion of all the community. It will be a great day for lusk when the first students enter the school in September.

Lusk News Your Town My Town

Traffic ManagementScheme 275,000 has been allocated by the Council to introducea traffic calming measure for the town of Lusk. The purpose of this scheme is to stop the cars travelling toand from Skerries using the town as a rat run.

    Ken at Murrays corner

These works include Traffic lights at the junction ofMurrays corner and other works such as a footpath atMurrays gable end and a one way traffic light system atthat junction. Other works will include the changing ofsight lines in the vicinity. This will have the effect of making the town much safer and environmentally friendly for pedestrians as traffic volumes will be reduced dramatically. These works have commenced recently andshould be completed in the next couple of months.

    New Community Sports facility

I have worked hard over the last year including meetingswith the County Manager to deliver a new communitysports facility for Lusk.

The Council has now allocated 936,000 for the erection of a community sports facility for Lusk underthe integrated facility program with the Department of Education. This facility which will be built in the nearfuture adjacent to the new junior and senior nationalschool adjacent to the grounds of the existing nationalschool. This site is well located and is within easy accessfor all the people in our community.

    Super Sewerage Plant

The decision on the location of the sewerage plant will be made in June. The residents of Lusk have spoken and I hope and expect that Fingal County Council will not locate the super sewerage plant anywhere near Lusk

What the papers sayWho is actually representing you?

It is a privilege to represent the people of lusk and to be able to deliver on issues for my home town.

    Pedestrian Linkage

One of my priorities has been to ensure that wewould have pedestrian linkage to and aroundthe town with new footpaths been erectedaround the town.

    These include

From the Dublin Road towards the Raven roundabout, From Orlynn Park to the relief road, From Dun Emer estate linking up with the Minister Road footpath, Major improvements in the pathway from TheCommons into the town.

The last part of the works is a linkage from remount estate and a new footpath to be placed on Hands Lanewhich will happen early in the New Year. This gives ease of pedestrian access to all areas of the town.

    Following a

    North County

    Leader survey

    Cllr Ken Farrell

    came out as the

    top performer.
