2009

I am very proficient in AutoCad. I have used multiple versions of the software. I mainly utilized the program to create architecture and construction documents. I have ex-perience creating elevation views and renderings from the program also.

2011

In college I took a few classes where I gained experience using Revit. In the introductory class I learned how to create buildings from floor plan to final renderings. Utilizing the wall properties, windows, floors, and roofs. I can also import objects from their online library to assist in the design process.

2013

Google SketchUp is a program I like to use for quick and easy renderings and conceptual designs. I have im-ported floor plans from projects and also started from scratch on models in the program and find it easy to create models and renderings quickly and efficiently.

2011

AutoCad Architecture has a great inventory of information in the Detail Component. I often utilized the program for structural detailing and wall sections. The large selection of building material and components made it extremely to draw repetitive objects.

Page 5: Katie Wood | Architecture Portfolio

2013

I utilize Photoshop for a large quantity of projects, such as editing images, creating textures to import into sketchup for models, or editing drawings converted into JPEGS to keep for future use.

2014

I work with InDesign to created projects designed to be print-ed. I used the program to design my portfolio .

2014

I began using Illustrator after I started hand lettering and learning about typography. Currently I use Illustrator as a was to help develop clean designs that are much harder to create by hand.

2014

I began to learn 3D Studio Max in college as a way to help present models to clients. I imported Sketch-Up models to animate a short walk through of the model. I am begin-ning to learn about creating materials in the program to help bring more life to the animations.

Top Left:Is a basic site plan created in AutoCad. The site plan is for a proposed two story residence in Oakland County. The site plan demonstrates where the building will be placed on the property, along with adjustments made to the site, and the placement of the water, gas, and electric lines.

Top Right:The basement and floor plan above are showing the plans for the plumbing running from the basement to the first floor of a resi-dence. It is a simple plan I created in Autocad to demonstrate how plumbing could be ran in that residence.

Full Page:The large site plan is a more detailed plan for a purposed commercial office created in Autocad. The building is divided in to lease areas for office space. The purposed office space was to be located in Livonia, there for while designing the site, Livonia code was followed.

Hand rendering became a hobby of mine in college. My first semester I took a class on hand rendering and found that it triggered my artistic side. The exterior renderings were a design proj-ect I complete my last semester. I had to design a house within the parameters given and then put it into a presentation form. I received the best grade in the class and my professor also congrat-ulated me on the best presentation packet that semester.

The interior rendering is completely hand drawn and rendered. I enjoy practicing rendering because it can be a beneficial tool in the indus-try.

renderingsmodel 136 - revit

Model 136 is a residential home designed in Revit. The concept was to de-sign a home for a family of three, with room for growth. The two story home is welcoming with a large foyer, leading into formal dining on your left and a spacious living and Entertaining area on the right. The formal dining and living wrap around to the rear or the house where the open kitchen is located. The kitchen and living room walls are lined with windows and a rear sliding door leading to the backyard. The second story includes an additional full

bath, two bedrooms, and a master suite. The home has an attached two car garage leading into a mud room on the first floor and a full size basement for extra storage and entertaining. Designing this house in Revit assists in producing full section views, wall sections, construction documents, and render-ings. While designing in Revit it is easy to become familiar with the material and construction of the building. Before placing walls to produce the floor plan, the wall materials are picked to specification. When placing floors the

finishing materials can also be specified. The roof design can be standard or custom. Utilizing Revit helps to understand not only the concept of the design, but how the design will be constructed.

The Taliesin Mod. Fab was designed and built by graduate and undergrad-uate students at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture with the fac-ulty guidance of Michael P. Johnson and Jennifer Siegal, project manag-er Christian Butler, and assistant project manager Nick Mancusi. The Talies-in Mod FAb is an example of simple, elegant, and sustainable living in the desert. The one-bedroom, 600-square-foot prototype residence is designed to exist with zero impact on the environment.

Creating a replica Mod Fab house was my first project using Google SketchUp. During this project I learn how to import the archi-tects specification sheet and began to scale the model around the floor plan. After building the frame of the residence I proceeded to construct the steel J channel and I beams supporting the floor system. The interior design concept is modest and green. All electricity is generated from solar pan-els places near the back of the house. After finalizing design work to the house, I imported the site plan and

started to contour the land in relation to the site where the Mod Fab was originally built. I finished the model by adding interior decora-tions, foliage, and the sky. Learning SketchUp helped me decrease the time to produce quick models and renderings for presenta-tions and design concepts.

hand letteringillustrations

Hand lettering is creating type in a more artistic aspect. It is not simply putting letters on paper, but giving them life and meaning. I enjoy creating monograms, structured lettering using tools, and making free hand illustrations.
