Kathryn Ross World ChampionANU Boat Clubs Kathryn Ross has marked a stunning return to the World Championships in the PR2Single Scull setting a worlds best time then winning the gold medal in Austria
Kathryn was one of two Australian gold medallists at the event along with the Womens Fours crew It wasalso a regatta to remember for Renae Domaschenz - not only did she coach Kathryn to WorldChampionship success she also coxed the PR3 Mixed Four to fourth
Capital Lakes Cara Grzeskowiak and her Womens Quad Scull finished 10th overall while ANUs CalebAntill finished 12th overall as part of the Mens Double Scull Capital Lakes Nikki Ayers and BlackMountains Luke Letcher were both reserves with Nikki competing in the reserves race before theChampionships

Rowing ACT is happy to announce that the 201920 Regatta Calendar has now been released Thiscalendar includes a number of new features including an ACT Head of the LakeACT Championshipsdouble-header on the weekend of March 14-15 the ACT Grade Championships on 29 February and theACT Masters Championships on 4 April
Not that this will stop the old favourites Developed in conjunction with the Regatta Sub-Committee thisseasonrsquos calendar includes five regular pointscore regattas the Tuggeranong Cup the Capital LakesSprint Regatta and the Col Panton Memorial Marathon New to the calendar are the ACT MastersChampionships on 4 April an ACT Grade Championships on 29 February and a twilight regatta to finish2019 on 7 December Wersquove included draft programs for the Masters Championships with the draft for theGrade Championships to follow in the next week Wersquore looking for your input into how these two regattasshould run wersquod also like to hear your suggestions for the 7 December Twilight Regatta If yoursquod like tocontribute then please email eorowingactorgau with your comments by 19 October
Wersquove listened to the rowing community and made some changes to our regular regatta program The newprogram includes menrsquos and womenrsquos Masters quad events while the C D amp E quad heats and finals areno longer included Year 8 9 amp 10 school races are now in place of the heats with the C D amp E graderaces in place of the finals Both of these are now stand-alone events and will run as divisional racesThese events will run on a trial basis for 201920 and will be reviewed at the end of the seasonThe calendar has also included feedback from our BRO community who will be working hard to make theregattas run as smoothly as possible We always need new BROs and regatta volunteers though asregattas are subject to cancellation if there arenrsquot enough volunteers for them If you are interested involunteering as a BRO or as a general volunteer please contact Executive Officer Stuart John ateorowingactorgau for more information and training details We will be looking to all our clubs andschools to assist with volunteers throughout the regatta season to ensure that we have a great season

In the mens single scull Black Mountains Ben Geier is out in front in the race for the Kwiatowski Cup 11points clear of Capital Lakes Geoff Nichols CGGS rower Grace Turner leads the womens series for theLyn Cirulis Plate 10 points clear of ANUs Sarah Connor in second
In the Sunday events the Capital Lakes double of Dario amp Electra Beltrami and Steve Grzeskowiak leadsthe Open competition while the CRC doubles teams of Sandra Sweeney Katie Tagg and RachaelCarnegie is well in front of the Womens competition Capital Lakes leads the Open quads while BlackMountain leads the Womens quads

The Capital Lake octo at the Winter Time Trial 4 in August
Head of the MolongloThe 2019 Head of the Molonglo took place in some foggy conditions in early August The race whichstarts on the Molonglo River east of Lake Burley Griffin and finishes at Black Mountain Peninsula saw 14starters on a very cold winters day The apparent temperature on the day was -36 degrees - kudos to allthose who braved the cold
Fastest across the line was the CRC eight of Timothy Hodge Hilbert Van Pelt Joshua Watson AlvarClosas Sebastian Lang Aaron Garnham Cameron ONeil Nicholas Latimer and Alison Herbert as coxclosely followed by the CRCSchool composite crew The ADF Composite crew of Matthew BuchtmannDamon Hietbrink Jeremy Lawrence and Nic Williams was the fastest four while the CRCANU compositequad was next

RIP Nick Garratt AM 1947 - 2019A large crowd gathered for the funeral of Rowing ACT head coach Nick Garratt on a cold July afternoonrecently with plenty of people travelling long distances to pay their respects
Not only was Nick respected both nationally and internationally his work ethic and character were widelyvalued and admired Nick was friendly calm and collegiate with a good sense of humour
As our head coach and a member of the ACT rowing community for the last few years the loss is personalto many of us including the current cohort of elite rowers He inspired many youngsters who progressedunder his tutelage to be National and World Rowing Champions Nick achieved great results initially inWestern Australia then in NSW at Mosman and finally in the ACT
His results with the ACT team were exceptional All four of ACT interstate crews and scullers won medalsin the 2019 interstate regatta the ACTrsquos best-ever results Nick was personally involved as the principalcoach of the ACT menrsquos lightweight four and sculler Cara Grzeskowiak and was influential with ournational para scullersHe was appointed a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2016 AustraliaDay honours Nick coached crews in the Sydney Athens Beijing and London Olympics with a fourth inthe menrsquos quad scull in Sydney and a sixth in the womenrsquos eights in London

Our High Performance fundraiser was a great success with over $18000 raised for the purchase of anew double scull This boat - named the Nick Garratt - will officially be christened later in the year Thank-

BROs on tourWere lucky to have three FISA-accredited Boat Race Officials in the ACT with two of them headingoverseas for international regattas recently
Our Chief BRO Geoff Northam had a sneak peak at next years Olympic course in Tokyo when he workedat the World Junior Championships earlier this month while Nick Hunter crossed the Pacific for the Pan-American games in Peru
Well be running training sessions for Boat Race Officials in October - these people are needed to make

Winter Time TrialsWere almost through our Winter Time Trial series with Winter Time Trial 5 coming up on September 14and 15 Theres plenty to aim for at this event with a number of point-score trophies up for grabs
In the mens single scull Black Mountains Ben Geier is out in front in the race for the Kwiatowski Cup 11points clear of Capital Lakes Geoff Nichols CGGS rower Grace Turner leads the womens series for theLyn Cirulis Plate 10 points clear of ANUs Sarah Connor in second
In the Sunday events the Capital Lakes double of Dario amp Electra Beltrami and Steve Grzeskowiak leadsthe Open competition while the CRC doubles teams of Sandra Sweeney Katie Tagg and RachaelCarnegie is well in front of the Womens competition Capital Lakes leads the Open quads while BlackMountain leads the Womens quads

The Capital Lake octo at the Winter Time Trial 4 in August
Head of the MolongloThe 2019 Head of the Molonglo took place in some foggy conditions in early August The race whichstarts on the Molonglo River east of Lake Burley Griffin and finishes at Black Mountain Peninsula saw 14starters on a very cold winters day The apparent temperature on the day was -36 degrees - kudos to allthose who braved the cold
Fastest across the line was the CRC eight of Timothy Hodge Hilbert Van Pelt Joshua Watson AlvarClosas Sebastian Lang Aaron Garnham Cameron ONeil Nicholas Latimer and Alison Herbert as coxclosely followed by the CRCSchool composite crew The ADF Composite crew of Matthew BuchtmannDamon Hietbrink Jeremy Lawrence and Nic Williams was the fastest four while the CRCANU compositequad was next

RIP Nick Garratt AM 1947 - 2019A large crowd gathered for the funeral of Rowing ACT head coach Nick Garratt on a cold July afternoonrecently with plenty of people travelling long distances to pay their respects
Not only was Nick respected both nationally and internationally his work ethic and character were widelyvalued and admired Nick was friendly calm and collegiate with a good sense of humour
As our head coach and a member of the ACT rowing community for the last few years the loss is personalto many of us including the current cohort of elite rowers He inspired many youngsters who progressedunder his tutelage to be National and World Rowing Champions Nick achieved great results initially inWestern Australia then in NSW at Mosman and finally in the ACT
His results with the ACT team were exceptional All four of ACT interstate crews and scullers won medalsin the 2019 interstate regatta the ACTrsquos best-ever results Nick was personally involved as the principalcoach of the ACT menrsquos lightweight four and sculler Cara Grzeskowiak and was influential with ournational para scullersHe was appointed a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2016 AustraliaDay honours Nick coached crews in the Sydney Athens Beijing and London Olympics with a fourth inthe menrsquos quad scull in Sydney and a sixth in the womenrsquos eights in London
