description

A selection of works from both my professional and educational architectural career. Primarily the work focuses on Commercial and Public projects, with an emphasis on sustainability, integration with natural systems and on-site materials. Professional projects were completed as an employee of Toker + Associates Architecture Industrial Design (Calgary, AB, Canada, 2008-2010), RoboFold (London, UK, 2011), and biothing (London, UK, 2012). Educational research was conducted while attending Carleton University School of Architecture (Ottawa, ON, Canada, 2004-2008) and the Architectural Association (London, UK, 2010-2012).

tRiClaD inteRioR aRCHiteCtuRal ClaDDingRoboFold Ltd. RoboFold is a unique patented method to form metal directly with 6-axis industrial robots. No mold-tools are required to form the metal, letting you explore variation in the geometry of each part. The entire process is simulated in CAD (Computer Aided Design) software; this means that you can design within the manufacturing constraints.

The TriClad interior architectural cladding system was designed and executed in this manner. It is targeted at high end interiors projects such as retail and receptions.

Kathleen was part of the team responsible for designing the system, specifically Kathleen was involved in the wall fastener componenet, visualizations, exhibit design and publication material.

In response to current architecture which is disconnected from the natural onsite processes, Crystal

Clouds, a phase-changing architectural system, has been embedded and intrinsically connected to its

ecosystem. It brings natural processes to the forefront of the construction process maintains an on-going

relationship with the surrounding ecosystem as it is continually adapts to the changing landscape.

In dealing with fabrication the potential strength is in the development of a device which would operate in cooperation with others of the same species.

This Bottom Up approach meant that each device was given a set of rules to operate by, rather than a directive of the final outcome, or specific instructions of which way to go. The logic and coding developed for these devices drew inspiration from the basic rules of a swarm system including Positive Feedback Negative Feedback, Amplification of Randomness, and Multiple Interactions.

Concept This project out of an interest in naturally occuring patterns in biology. Winding paths on multiple levels connect each unit to semipublic roof top gardens and ground level public courtyards. Plants were integrated as seasonal moderators of spacce in terms of light and temperature and created a landscape conducive to public gathering.

CulinaRy instituteBachelor of Architectural Studies, Carleton University School of ArchitectureLoation: Ottawa, ON, Canada

The main goal of this project was to explore the interaction between private and public space and the boundaries which divide and join them. The Culinary Institute includes programmatic space for a residence, common areas, classrooms, practice kitchens, and a restaurant.

Based on the idea that cooking is a form of chemistry with a direct effect on the body, the inspiration behind this project was the intricate forms of organic chemistry. It also dealt with naturopathic cooking and included environmental initiatives such as green wastewater treatment and organic herb gardens.
