A Noble History

In the past, even the Pope in the Vatican and the Emperor in the court in Vienna had a taste for the famous Radenska mineral water. Today, it is enjoyed by the guests of the Radenci Health Resort directly from the spring, only moments after it surfaces from the depths. In terms of carbon dioxide content, it one of the richest mineral waters in Europe. The well-known three hearts in the Radenska mineral water seal represent the three springs: the Healing spring was marked with three hearts, the Royal spring with two and the Gizela spring with one.

»Listen how loudly it roars today?« With these words, the coachman called the attention of a young visiting medical student, Karl Henn, to the bubbling spring in 1833. Henn took some water from the spring for study and the analysis revealed that the water had healing properties. The doctor returned to Radenci as an established practitioner and started bottling the Radenska mineral water in 1869. The health resort was officially opened 13 years later, in 1882.

In times past, the “radenska slatina” spring – the Radenska Mineral Water – has roared, hissed and murmured so loudly that legends began to appear among the neighbouring villagers ... One of these legends relates that the noise is made by hardworking dwarves digging underground tunnels to pave the way for the healing waters. According to another legend, there was a giant cauldron under the spring where witches cooked dumplings. And yet another tells us that the booming sound is the sound of thunder and hail gathering there ...

Even though it is still not clear who is responsible for the noise, whether the dwarves, the witches or some other magical beings, one thing is for certain: in Radenci, nature has been truly generous with its healing gifts - gifts that strengthen the human body and pamper you from head to toe. Radenci is one of the few health resorts in Slovenia that can boast of four natural, healing factors. As well as the renowned Radenska mineral water, there is also healing thermal-mineral water, healing mud (known as peloid) and the overall beneficial climate with more than 250 sunny days per year.

Get to Know Pomurje T h e R a d e n c i he a l T h R e s o R T is situated just a few kilometres from Gornja Radgona and the border with Austria and highway links are not far away. It is the home of the renowned Radenska mineral water and is also the starting venue of the well-known Three Hearts marathon, which has been attracting runners from all over Slovenia, neighbouring countries and the world for more than 30 years. The Pomurje region is also famous for its wonderful hiking and running trails, winding alongside the Mura River or through the surrounding Radgona-Kapela vineyards.

The neighbouring area of the Radenci Health Resort offers a variety of options for spending your free time, ranging from rafting on the river Mura to visiting the sparkling wine cellar in Gornja Radgona. You will be charmed by the mill on the river Mura and the windmill in Stara Gora – and we also highly recommend that you visit the nearby church of St. Mary Magdalene in Kapelski Vrh, the Romanic rotunda in Selo – which is one of the oldest cultural monuments in Slovenia – and the renowned church in Bogojina designed by the famous Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik.

Although Slovenia is not a large country in surface area, it nonetheless surpasses many larger countries in its diversity. The characteristic customs, food and dialect change with almost every kilometre travelled. You don’t believe me? Then you should visit the towns on the right-hand bank of the Mura, of which Radenci is just one, and compare them with the Prekmurje villages on the left bank and only a few kilometres away. Although this north-eastern part of Slovenia as a whole is known as Pomurje, the inhabitants will be quick to point out that Prekmurje is the other side of the river and this side is Prlekija. Their dialect is sometimes hard to understand, even for Slovenians, but they can show such a warm hospitality that you will be able to understand them no matter where you come from.

Mud WrapsDegenerative diseases of the joints and health conditions following injuries or surgery of the locomotor system.

The freshwater mud successfully transfers warmth into the body and thus lowers the arterial blood pressure; the blood circulation increases where the mud wrap is applied. The peloid wrap has a moderate soothing effect, alleviates pain and has a beneficial effect on chronic inflammations. The healing mud is used in cases of chronic skeletal, joint and muscular diseases and after surgery and injury. In a healthy person, the peloid wraps reduce stress and have a soothing effect that makes them excellent in combination with mineral water baths and massages.

The Indian Ayurveda healing method has been practiced for more than 5000 years and is the science of long life. According to Ayurveda, a person is healthy when they are in harmony with themselves and with the people and environment around them. The ayurvedic therapist helps the individual restore their balan-ce with the help of Ayurvedic instruments, cleansing procedures and meditation and by providing appropriate therapy and a diet tailored to the individual.

At the Radenci Health Resort, Ayurvedic treatments are perfor-med exclusively as part of the wellness programmes, including heart rate measurements and determining the body type accor-ding to Ayurveda (vata, pitta, kapha). Climatic FactorsThe Radenci Health Resort was one of the first in Slovenia to receive a certificate as a bioclimatic health resort as the cli-matic characteristics in this part of Pomurje have an excellent effect on health and wellbeing.
