Kalori Denise King Principal Narromine Public School Emergency Procedures Regularly during the school year, we undertake evacuation and lockdown practices to ensure the safety of everyone at our school. We plan to undertake one of these practices in the near future. Teachers will be talking to the children about our emergency procedures, if you could also share with your children the importance of practicing for an emergency this may lessen the fear factor for them during our drills. When on site all visitors, parents etc. are expected to join in with these practices. We hope that we will never be put into a situation where we would need to carry out these procedures in real life but with these practices at least we are the best prepared that we can be. EVACUATION An evacuation is the organised and controlled movement of students, staff and visitors from a threatened or danger area in the minimum possible time and exposing them to the least possible risk. A copy of the emergency evacuation procedures is located on or near the main door of every room. This procedure will be used in the event of a fire, bomb scare, or any other event requiring immediate evacuation of the school. Emergency Evacuation Procedures • One long sound from the alarm bell or manual hooter, evacuate buildings via the most convenient exit or via classroom plan. • Close doors after ensuring no one else remains in room. • Everyone assemble on grass area near the cricket pitch on the back oval. • Remain in the evacuation area until the all clear is given. LOCKDOWN Lockdown is used when there is an immediate threat to the school, e.g. school intruders, an armed person on school grounds, potentially explosive object, storm situations etc. Lockdown secures staff and students in rooms, where everyone must remain until the situation has been declared safe. The staff, students and visitors will be alerted to follow the Emergency Lock-Down Procedure by short sharp blasts from the hooter. Any person noticing potential dangers in/or around the school should immediately notify the office. If this occurs during breaks in the school day students should approach the teacher(s) on duty, who should then notify the office immediately. Lockdown Procedures • If in the playground, move to closest room. • Close and lock all windows and doors. • Put down shutters if in the canteen. • Call the office 68894566 on your mobile or use the school’s internal phone system to advise the office that all are secure. • Remain in place until given the all clear. Kiss and Drop The ‘Drop-off’ area provides parents and carers with a safe environment to drop off their children by car. This area is on the school side of the road in Meryula Street. The kiss and drop zone provides convenience for drivers and will enhance children’s safety. Parents and carers are able to legally drop off their children within a two-minute timeframe. You may get out of the car to assist your child as long as you stay within three metres of the vehicle. The ‘Drop-off’ zone will allow drivers to drop off students legally at the beginning of the school day A ‘Drop-off’ zone has advantages for child road safety because it:

• Provides a designated zone at a school access point for drivers to stop and drop off their children, • Relieves traffic congestion around the school, • Allows smaller children to remain secured in the car while school age children are dropped off, and • Reinforces road safety messages and safe passenger behaviour to parents and children.

Safety tips for drivers using a ‘Drop-off’ area • Drop-off your child at the designated area, • Make sure children use the footpath-side door when getting out of the vehicle, • Never double park, and • Never undertake a U-turn in school zones.

Safety tips for students • Stay buckled up until the vehicle has stopped in the ‘Drop-off ’ area, • Make sure your school bag and other items are in a safe position, eg on the floor, • Be ready to get out of the car with your belongings when the car has stopped and you have unbuckled your

seatbelt, • Always get out of the backseat of the vehicle through the safety door – the rear footpath-side door.

Missing from our playground It is very disappointing to arrive back at school and discover that a number of our outdoor lunch tables have been stolen from the playground. This theft has been reported and as the lunch tables are not covered by any insurance they unfortunately will not be replaced. This is a loss to our students who make great use of this seating. Please help us to keep our resources in our school where all of our children can access them. If you happen to see people in our playground during non-school times please report this activity to the local police or to the police assistance hotline - 131 444. Head lice A number of families have reported cases of head lice to the staff, please be proactive as we are in head lice season. We have ordered in and will be sending home a treatment to all our families. We have found in the past that by all families treating at once we seem to be able to get on top of head lice and ease the discomfort for the children during the hot sticky days of summer. SRC Pink Stumps - Week 5 The McGrath Foundation was co-founded by Jane McGrath and her cricketing husband Glenn after Jane’s personal experience with breast cancer at 31. Jane became a passionate believer in the need for breast care nurses and increased breast awareness for all women regardless of age. The McGrath Breast Care Nurse Programme and Curve Lurve are the result of Jane’s legacy. To continue Jane’s legacy, Narromine Public School will host the annual Pink Stumps event in Week 5 of this term. All money raised will go to the McGrath Foundation. The events taking place are as follows. Pink Raffle Competition- Commencing Monday 20 February Students will have the opportunity to buy a raffle ticket to go in the draw to win some wonderful pink prizes.
