It was very disappointing this happened, despite the students knowing our expectations around the way they behave and interact with each other at school. We are very aware the use of social media, outside of school, has a direct influence on what happens during the school day – this was very much the case with what took place on Monday. I would encourage all parents to ensure they know what their children are doing online. Digital devices can be great when used to support learning. They can also cause all kinds of problems when used inappropriately. I would suggest you make sure: You know the passwords your child uses so you can check what they are doing online That the apps and programs being used are age appropriate You keep an eye on the texting and chats that are going on. Is the language appropriate? Is it what they would actually say to the person face to face? You know what is being said about other people. Again would they say it to the person? Is it appropriate? That when your child goes to bed to sleep, their device does not go with them. Staffing As mentioned last week we are working on a replacement for Hayley Henderson, who will be on leave next year. We hope to have this position filled by the beginning of next week. On Wednesday 7 th December, as many of our new Staff as possible will be joining us for an induction day. Relievers We are finding it very difficult to get relief teachers. Part of this could be the time of the year. There have been several times lately where we have had to split a class across other classes when we have been unable to find a relief teacher for the day. 2017 Class Placements We have almost finished the placement of students into classes for 2017. We have worked hard to ensure your requests, wherever possible, are accommodated. On the afternoon of Wednesday 7 th December students will find out which class they will be in and will spend from 2:00pm – 2:40pm with their 2017 teacher. Nō he kākano iti, e puawai ana he Kauri.
