iPad lab is very useful and effective. From the teach- ers’, students’, and technol- ogy supervisor’s opinion this addition was very much worth the price. Central School students are very lucky to have this fantastic learning tool. Story by: Alison Sickles and Jenny Rentana “The new iPad lab is a great educational improvement in our school,” says Mr. Gander, the school’s technology supervisor. Although the cost is about $500 each for both the 30 iPads and their cases, they may be a great step towards technological suc- cess for Keyport Central School. These programs are safe for the students because of the blocked websites and great se- curity. Mr. Gander is confident that students will stay safe while studying and that it will im- prove their learning experience greatly. Are there any costs in annexing this lab? The iPads seem to be a great addition, but we should also ask a teacher who experiences the progress directly. Ms. Guttman, one of the kin- dergarten teachers, opinion on the lab didn’t differ from Mr. Gander’s. She says, “The students beg to go every day!” The kindergar- teners enjoy their studying greatly even if they only spend a mere half hour practicing at the most. Throughout 4th grade, Julio Sanchez changed from all of the events he experienced. The events had various effects on the characters. Some were happy, some were scary, and one was even painful! My favorite events were some of the most memorable. They were Ra-mon’s test, the big test day, and the makeup test.

The first event is Ramon’s driver’s test. Ramon’s test isn’t a written one like Julio’s, Ramon has to take a driving test! He flunks the test the first time he took it. The examiner automatically fails men. Statistically, more men get into accidents than ladies. Ramon’s younger brothers (Julio and Nelson) really help him cheer up after Ramon fails his driving test, as well as abuelita and their mom.

The second event is the big test day. The big test day is when Julio had to take the state-wide standardized test. Julio’s stomach was really hurting, and he thought it was just nerves. But apparently, he had appendicitis! Appendicitis is when your appendix gets swollen and infected. Julio had to get his appendix removed. You don’t need your appendix to live, just like tonsils.

The last event I will discuss is the makeup test. The makeup test is about Julio and two other fourth graders that got bronchitis take a makeup test in the library. They have to do the Language Arts and Math parts of

the state-wide standardized test. Julio gets into a big conversation with Mrs.Schraalenburgh about tests. Julio says he never wants to take a test again, but Mrs.Schraalenburgh tells he there are lots of tests, for example, blood tests, driving tests, drug tests, and many more!

So, now you know all about Julio Sanchez’s fun, painful, and happy experiences in fourth grade. He changed a whole lot! He was immature in the beginning, as well as his pal Lucas Cott. But, at the end of the novel, Julio Sanchez learned to stop worrying about everything, be responsi-ble, and to be more mature. Julio Sanchez really changed tremen-dously in the novel, “Fourth Grade Fuss”.

Keyport’s American Youth Football and Cheer programs had a wonder-ful season this year, all the teams did an outstanding job. The football teams had a lot of challenging oppo-nents this year. They all had wins and losses but stayed a team. AYF does a great job supplying all the children in the program with the equipment needed to play safe. The entire coaching staff did a terrific job teaching the players of Keyport the game of football. The 2012 Keyport Indian football season was amazing.

As for the cheer season the Keyport Indians had a tough battle to fight. The cheerleaders have practiced since the spring 2012 for competi-tion that began on October 6, 2012 for the state of New Jersey. All of the Keyport cheer teams advanced to the regional competition. Each

team completed their journey end-ing up at the AYC National Compe-tition in Florida. Each team came back to New Jersey with a trophy. Way to go Keyport Cheerleaders! The 2013, football and cheer season looks to be even bigger and better.
