They handle children-in-conflict with law aswell as those in need of care & protection. • The names of the .Juvenile Welfare Officers of a police station are displayed prominently in the reception area and are also available on website www.dpjju.com. If any child is. found in ·need-of care & protection, the concerned JWO should be informed immediately. . • The duties and responsibilities of JWOs are as under :- • The desiqnated (JWO) shall take charge of the child who comes in contact with police. • The JWO shall make earnest efforts to contact the biological family or guardian of the children and Inform them about the circumstances in which the Juvenile/Child came in contact with the police. • TheJWO shall contact the Child Welfare Committee (CWC)/Juvenile • Justice Board (JJB) for further orders with respect tothe child. • Under no circumstances shall a Juvenile-in-conflict with law (JCL) be • putinalockup. . • JWOs shall be responsible for the safety and provision offood, medical aid and basic amenities to the juvenile under their charge during the • period suchjuvenile iswith them.· . • To ensure thet any alleged offender at the'Police Station who might be ajuvenile is not treated as an adult. Ifthis fact comes to the JWO's notice, he shall 'immediately report to the officer in charge of the Police Station concerned with an intimation to the District SJPU and CWC/JJB. .
