Special Collection – June 14th

Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services

Next week our parish will take up the Collection for the Archdiocese

for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The AMS relies solely on private

donors in support of its mission, “Serving those who serve” and its ministry to

provide the same pastoral care and services to Catholics serving in the United

States Armed Forces, enrolled in U.S. Military Academies, undergoing treatment

at any of the 153 Department of Veterans Affairs’ Medical Centers, working in

civilian jobs for the federal government beyond U.S. borders, and the families of

these populations, as does any other Catholic diocese. While the salaries and

retirement of Catholic military chaplains are paid for by the U.S. Government,

the AMS receives no funding from government or the military for its programs

and services, including the Co-Sponsored Seminarian Program, which provides

priests for home dioceses and for the military chaplaincy. To learn more, go to

LIVING THE LITURGY LIVING THE LITURGY LIVING THE LITURGY LIVING THE LITURGY ---- INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Today we celebrate the Divine dance, a perfectly choreographed interplay of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Together they dance and move as one though three unique Persons with distinctive, yet harmonious, patterns and steps. They provide a mirror into our soul. Within each one of us, the Divine dance continues, and the music of God’s love continues to inspire, sustain, and recreate us with every step and melody. Can you hear the music that the Triune God is playing? Where is the dance leading you? Our minds can never truly understand or know God. But our hearts can seek and find Him. From beginning to end, God is one and, at the same time, Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier. God’s holy Trinitarian dance is calling you to holiness. Join in and dance! ©LPi

The Most Holy Trinity

“God did not send his Son into

the world to condemn the world,

but that the world might be

saved through him. ”

John 3:16-18

How can we explain One God in Three Divine Persons so

that others might understand it? How can you define and

explain the incomprehensible? In fact, you can't. The Jewish

understanding of God reflected a relationship one might have

with a loving parent. Parents give us life. Teach us the ways of

faith. Inspire us to do good. God exists to give us life, teach us

His ways and inspires us to do good.

As the Church expanded into the Greek world, our

understanding of God took on a Greek mentality. Unlike the

Jews who were content with believing in only that God exists.

The Greeks prided themselves on their intellectual reasoning

and trying to define even the undefinable. Hence the Greek

mind needed to define God. The One God became Creator,

Word and Spirit. The Trinity became a dogma of our faith.

Our understanding of God can be as complicated as

One God in Three Persons or as simple as a loving Creator

who made us in His own image and likeness, gave us His Son

to die on the Cross for our sins, and gives us His Spirit to fill

us with His peace and forgiveness.

Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church

Where is that guy with the rainbow wig holding a “John 3:16”

sign in the end zone at NFL football games? Younger

readers may not have any idea what I am talking about! You

used to see this guy on TV all the time wearing “Jesus Saves”

shirts and holding his sign. Most thought he was a harmless

guy, but now he is serving multiple life sentences for taking

hostages at a hotel near LAX in 1992. His name is Rollen

Stewart and he believed — and continues to believe while in

prison — that Jesus’ second coming is imminent. His

extreme actions were meant to make people take notice

and listen to him. Now he sits behind bars, and most in the

world see his name as nothing more than an answer to a

trivia question.

It is a sad story when people hurt others or use extreme

methods in the name of God. Mr. Stewart’s belief that

simply getting people to listen to his message is the most

important step in their salvation is misguided. His poor

stewardship should stand in stark contrast to our good

stewardship. Our actions, seasoned at times with our

words, should be the evidence people need to see the

transformative power of Jesus Christ. We do believe that he

is indeed coming again. But once you have committed

yourself to him and live in his life on earth, when he returns

is not our main concern. We are ready whenever that time

comes, and hopefully, we can help others be ready as well

by our example.
