WHOOSHING INTO JUNE.. FURNISHED RENTALS VANCOUVER | DUNOWEN.COM Summer is upon us! How I love the warming weather of June! It seems that in the blink of an eye winter has gone and summer is upon us! Biking, hiking, paddle-boarding, beach volleyball, everywhere you look people out and about enjoying the great outdoor activities Vancouver has to offer. The high ocean tides remind me of my childhood in New Zealand, running barefoot with my brother up to Sprat’s Bridge, daring each other to jump! As the days grow longer, everybody is out on the street and people seem friendlier, socializing and smiling as they stroll along the tree-lined boulevards and the paths beside the sea. For the first time this year I brought out my Green Egg, the wizard BBQ smoker I love to cook on, and made one of my favourite dishes - Spicy Marinated Organic Chicken. It was delicious, even if I do say so myself! Summer is upon us!
How I love the warming weather of June! It seems that in the
blink of an eye winter has gone and summer is upon us!
Biking, hiking, paddle-boarding, beach volleyball, everywhere
you look people out and about enjoying the great outdoor
activities Vancouver has to offer. The high ocean tides
remind me of my childhood in New Zealand, running barefoot
with my brother up to Sprat’s Bridge, daring each other to
jump!
As the days grow longer, everybody is out on the street and
people seem friendlier, socializing and smiling as they stroll
along the tree-lined boulevards and the paths beside the sea.
For the first time this year I brought out my Green Egg, the

father-to-be a great day of celebration! May Father’s Day
bring lots of little reminders of all the ways you’re admired
and appreciated.
Also Vancouver’s East Side Garden Tour is on this month,
June 15th. Always a favorite of mine, I get to poke around
other people’s outside spaces and enjoy their labors of love.
We are so fortunate in Vancouver to be able to enjoy these
amazing gardens with their flowering greenery long before
the rest of Canada.

If you haven’t yet visited the Ted and Mary Greig
rhododendron display in Stanley Park, make sure you make
some time to go there. It is a definite must-see right now, as
it’s in full bloom. And while you’re at it, you might want to
check out the hundreds of herons nesting in the tall branches
of the alders lining the Stanley Park tennis courts! A well-kept
Vancouver secret wonder!
And when summer arrives, visitors come from all over the
world to stay in our furnished apartments for rent. On my
daily rides around Stanley Park’s sea wall, the bike traffic has
tripled! There’s no doubt whatsoever that Vancouver is a Fun
City as well as being one of the most welcoming places I
have ever lived in. Just reach out next time you are out and
about and say hi!

CHICKEN RECIPE

Ingredients:
Marinate one whole
organic chicken in:
* 1 tsp. Asian chili peppers
* 1 tsp Sambal paste
* 3 T. hoisin or oyster
sauce
* 3 cloves crushed garlic
* 3 T. olive oil
* ½ lemon juice
* sel del mer
Directions:
Mix the marinade together.
Roll chicken in marinade
and cover for 8 hours,
turning every few hours.
Cook chicken breast down
on a covered BBQ or in the
oven for 30 minutes @ 400
degrees.
Then place it upright for 20
more minutes.
Remove after 50 minutes,
wrap chicken in tinfoil and
let rest for 30 minutes
before serving.
This way all the juices are
kept in.
