Today we celebrate Pentecost! Now, let me be honest with you. For the first half of my life, that statement wouldn’t have gotten much response from me. I would have muttered an, “oh great,” or something to that effect. My opinion was that we need to spend more time trying to fix what’s happening today, rather than focusing on something that hap-pened thousands of years ago. I would have been convinced that, although perhaps a stirring story, the Pentecost account was not relevant to this day and age. Wow, would I have been wrong! As I reflect on the scripture today, I am quite certain that we have eve-rything to learn from it, especially in today’s world. Think about all that is happening all over the world with different races, cultures and customs. There are wars upon wars. Eve-ry day there is another story of a Christian killed for their faith, or a foreigner killed for their race. The world is steeped in discord from every angle. What if the events of Pentecost were to happen now? What if the Lord’s disciples spoke His Word to everyone in their own tongue? Would the world stop and listen? Would we be “astounded and… amazed,” as they were in Jerusalem? Would we follow His Word and go out to make disciples? We already know the answer to that question. Sadly, no. Largely, we are not listening or re-sponding. The Lord is speaking to us all through the long line of Bishops and Priests, and in our own language, and yet we are still deaf to His teaching. No, we remain stuck in the mire of worldly clamor and continue to spiral into the depths of our own destruction. If only we could hear God’s voice – really turn off all the other noise and hear Him. Instead of thinking about how wrong the other guys are, I think we should all just stop and ask the Lord to guide us, and then LISTEN to hear His voice. He comes to us in many forms, but we have to be watching and listening for Him. Read a church marquee, or a prayer card or even the Bible. Or, come to Mass and LISTEN to God’s Word in the readings and God’s voice in the words of your pastor. Give God some of your time, ask Him for direc-tion, and then LISTEN for the answer. It will come today, as it did over 2000 years ago and it will change the way you respond to celebrating Pentecost. Blessings to you, Melissa

From Msgr. Frank Chiodo

Friends,

Great news!!! We have done it again. For the third straight year in a row, this grand parish has

met its annual appeal assessment goal. Thanks to your generous sacrificial spirit you have

walked in the footsteps of the great parishioners who built this parish during some of the most

dismal financial history of our country, namely the Great Depression. Thanks to Mr. Todd Bor-

denaro, our appeal chairman, and his expert leadership and inspiration we can rightly enjoy a

moment of pride as we give God the glory for His guiding light leading us to this day.

Next week the priests are on retreat at Conception Abbey. We will have a limited Mass sched-

ule during that time. Check page 3 of the bulletin for details.

Mark your calendars for our annual Corpus Christi Eucharistic pro-

cession It is June 18th at the grotto. There will be one mass, at

11am, combining the 10, 11;30 and 1;15pm masses. We will

make our traditional stops at five stations around the neighbor-

hood. Come and worship the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.= This

is one of our most treasured parish traditions, spanning the dec-

ades.

Blessings,
