Page 3: Feast of Pentecost

The children of Israel were commanded to bring a sheaf of the first fruits of their harvest to the priest, to be held until the first day of the week

The priest would then wave the sheaf before the Lord so that he would accept them and bless them, which enabled them to officially begin their harvest

Exactly 50 days after, on the Feast of Harvest, each family would bake 2 loaves of leavened bread with the flour of the first fruits and bring them to the priests to be offered and waved before the Lord

Christ died on the Passover and ascended to His Father’s throne on the first day of the week

He was seen of the apostles over a period of forty days

After the 40 days were over, prior to ascending to the throne again, Christ instructed the apostles that they were to remain in Jerusalem because they were going to be baptized with the Holy Spirit

When the Pentecost arrived, the Holy Spirit fell on the apostles, giving them great faith, strength and the power to perform miracles

They also had the ability to preach the gospel in all languages

After the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles, it began to fall on others, causing them to repent and be baptized

The Pentecost during the time of the apostles is highly prophetic, pointing to events that will occur in the last days

Symbols of PentecostKey Symbols Spiritual Meaning

The first fruit of the harvest that Israel was required to offer unto the Lord

Represents our best effort that we bestow for the Lord as well as the 144,000, which is a special group of saints

2 loaves of leavened bread baked with the flour from the first fruit of their harvest

Represents the 144,000 that are divided into two groups of people (see class “The First Fruit”)

Leavening that Israel was instructed to use when making the bread

Represents the power of the Holy Spirit that causes the word of God to grow, increase & change people in a manner that a small amt. of leavening will do to bread

Priests that offered the loavesRepresents Jesus Christ who will offer us to God the Father

As mentioned earlier, before Israel could begin their harvest they were required to wave a sheaf of the first fruits before God so that he would accept them, hence the name Feast of the First Fruits

Spiritually, our first fruits represent our best effort

How do we showcase our best effort?...by obeying God’s entire law, performing spiritual works and being willing to make sacrifices so that God remains first within our lives

The first fruit of the harvest not only represents our best efforts but a special group of saints called the 144,000 (See class on “First Fruit”)

During the time of harvest, the Lord will first BEGIN with the 144,000, pouring out his Holy Spirit upon them to prepare them for salvation

When Pentecost is referred to as the Feast of Harvest, keep in mind that this specifically references the first fruit harvest or the gathering together of the 144,000

We place special emphasis on the Holy Spirit during the Feast of Pentecost (See “Who Is the Holy Spirit”)

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit will occur in the last days and will change God’s people on a spiritual and physical level (See the “Outpouring of the Holy Spirit”)

This outpouring will NOT be a singular event

Page 10: Feast of Pentecost

The Holy Spirit will FIRST be poured upon the 144,000 just as it first came upon the apostles

But this time the Holy Spirit will not only change their hearts and minds....it will also change their bodies to immortal

After the 144,000 has been changed the Holy Spirit will then be poured out upon the rest of God’s people

To calculate the Day of Pentecost begin with Passover

Within every week of Passover is the seventh day Sabbath

We begin counting the “morrow after Sabbath,” which is Sunday

Sunday is day number 1

Count 50 days

The 50th day will again be Sunday

This 50th day is Pentecost

Note: you may also count 7 weeks with week 1 starting after the seventh day Sabbath within the week of Passover, hence the name Feast of Weeks

This year Pentecost occurs on May 27, 2012

When Do We Celebrate Pentecost?

Page 12: Feast of Pentecost

Pentecost, like every feast day, is a holy convocation

This necessitates two holy days in a row, the seventh day Sabbath preceding Pentecost as well as the actual feast day that occurs on Sunday

We decorate our church with the colors of fire including red, yellow and orange to symbolize the Holy Spirit

Our ceremony includes songs of praise, prayer ceremony, hand washing & communion, testimonies & a wave loaf ceremony

During the wave loaf ceremony each family in our church presents 2 leavened loaves that are to be waved by the minister with a prayer and blessing for each family
