Jeremiah under scrutinizing eyes. Remember how Jeremiah tried to escape

from the Lord’s call? He was not ready to be sent. I understand why. Who is ready to

face a tough life courtesy of them whose only desire is their own good? Jeremiah was.

Even if it was tough, Jeremiah accepted God’s invitation for he knew, despite the

tough life of being God’s mouthpiece, God’s love would never abandon him.

He was persecuted. He was persecuted because he prophesies. Many were pierced by

the message he courageously preached but a lot of them did not heed his word. They

spoke ill of him. They rejected him. They persecuted him because he crossed lines.

o0o

One young teacher, my colleague, bravely did what she believed was exact and true.

And then one day, a parent stormed the principal’s office complaining about what the

parent described as verbal and emotional abuse a teacher committed towards her son. To add injury to insult,

the teacher was called by the complaining parent irresponsible and inefficient teacher!

If the teacher was at fault, why would the student’s report card provide very revealing facts? The stu-

dent was failing his subjects. All his course teachers would be able to attest that the student was always absent

despite the consistent reminder; that he was not complying his school/course work despite given many oppor-

tunities to make up.

The succeeding school year, the teacher did not come back to teach. No. It was not her choice. The Sis-

ters, who were running the Catholic school, let her go because she was inefficient and irresponsible.

The teacher was dismissed. She accepted the decision and moved on peacefully. But her seemingly bad

fate was returned with a much better opportunity. Even before the first quarter of being unemployed ended, she

was hired as a permanent elementary school teacher in one of the public schools in her area.

o0o

Rejection, poor treatment and persecution seem to be part of discipleship. That is fact. Jesus himself

taught that to his disciples. In the Gospels, Jesus told the story of a vineyard owner who sent his managers to

watch the tenants. The tenants rejected them. Until he finally sent his own son. He, too, was rejected and

worse, he was killed by the tenants. “The stone that was rejected by the builders became the cornerstone.”

Jesus described to his disciples the essence of willingly accepting trials, persecutions and death for the

sake of the heavenly Kingdom. Jesus assured his disciples that to suffer for the sake of the Kingdom is a beau-

tiful expression of love for he himself suffered and died.

Jesus assured his disciples that through suffering, faith has more meaning, mission has more essence.

o0o

Happy Feast Day to all. Celebrating our parish’s Patronal Feast Day must inspire us for greater service

to our local church and zeal to praise and love God through our parish community. Our dear Mother, Our Lady

of Perpetual Help, is always our example of discipleship. May she always intercede for us and help us to help

build up God’s Kingdom.

do.

Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Saints Peter and Paul, apostles – June 29 “When I stand up to talk, people listen to me; they will follow what I have to say. Is it any power of

mine? Of course not, St. Paul says, ‘What have you that you have not received and you who have received,

why do you glory as if you had not?’ But the secret of my power is that I have never in fifty–five years

missed spending an hour in the presence of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. That’s where the power

comes from. That’s where sermons are born. That’s where every good thought is conceived." (Archbishop

Fulton J. Sheen)

Please join us for Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration is available in the

chapel 24 hours every day. For adoration outside of the 24-hour regular Thursday schedule, call the office

for instructions and to enlist. Everyone is welcome. Spend as much or as little time as you can. Thank you
