Governor Ducey opens a little more of Arizona

Chamber says goodbye to a valuable member of the Board of Directors.

Dan Streeter is leaving the Chamber Board as he moves on to his new position at the Superintendent for the Ma-rana School District. Dan has been an active board member since 2015 serving as board secretary for 2019-

2020. Dan has also served on the Education committee, the Pronghorn Golf and Prescott Valley Days committees. With his leadership the Adopt-a-School program grew, the Career Fair was developed and he created additional partnerships between the Chamber, schools and businesses. In 2017 he was named Prescott Area Leadership’s Man of the Year. We wish him the best as he moves on and we welcome Kort Miner who has been appointed to fill his term ending June 30, 2022.

At his press conference on May 28 Governor Ducey gave an update on COVID-19 and the gating criteria that has been met from the White House “Open-ing up American Again” guidelines. He continues to make the health and safety of the residents while working with the business community for economic re-covery from the CoVID-19 outbreak. The highlights from that press con-ference include: • Continue with a robust testing pro-gram for at-risk healthcare workers in-cluding emerging antibody testing and trace contacts of COVID-19 results.• Maintaining hospital capacity.• Schools will resume at the start of the school year with guidance being released by Su-

perintendent Hoffman on Monday, June 1.• Organized youth ac-tivities can resume with guidance and include summer leagues, sum-mer schools and day camps.

• The new director for the Department of Economic Security was announced - Michael Wisehart.

• $441 million re-leased for Arizona counties, cities and towns with $150 mil-

lion for fast-tracked FEMA reim-bursements for coronavirus related expenditures. The Governor continues to follow his Stay Healthy. Return Smarter. Re-turn Stronger platform and says we will get it done the Arizona Way! All Executive Orders can be found on the Governor’s website azgover-nor.gov.

May has been a month of change as we slowly emerge from the “Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connect-ed” order from Governor Ducey. That order expired on May 15 and was replaced with his “Stay Healthy, Return Smarter, Return Stronger” executive order. As I write this, gyms and fitness centers, spas, bar-bers, hair and nail salons, pools, re-tail and restaurant dine-in service have been reopened. There are guidelines they must follow and which can be found at www.azdhs.gov. For information on all of the Governor’s executive orders visit azgovernor.gov.

The Chamber is celebrating its businesses opening with a “Tying Prescott Valley Together” campaign. We will deliver an Open for Business sign, a red ribbon to tie at your busi-ness and take a picture to post on our social media. We will also publish in our news magazine and our weekly eFlash news. This is open to all our businesses. You do not need to be a member of the chamber. We are out to support all our businesses to build a stronger economy. Shop Local, Sup-port Local, Stay Local.....Prescott Valley Together!

Yes, we will award our Community Excellence Awards this year. Please visit our website at pvchamber.org to nominate an individual, organization or business that you feel went above and beyond and are due wonderful recognition!

I read something that said “We are not in the same boat, but we are in the same storm.” Let’s be kind, patient and support one another as we continue through 2020.

I wish the best for all,Marnie

The Pronghorn Golf Tournament has been cancelled due to Prescott Golf Club not scheduling tournaments through August 31. We are looking for an alternate date, but in the meantime enjoy the outdoors!
