    ALPINE GOLF RESORT, Chiang Mai

Construction on the new 9-holes at AlpineChiang Mai is progressing well. Locatedbehind the current sixteenth kiosk, the newcourse will be available for play by yearsend. With 27 holes in play for next highseason Alpine Chiang Mai will be able torelieve some of the congestion experiencedwhen the Korean golfers descend on thecity each January through March. Staytuned for more details.

    CENTARA MASTERS, Hua Hin

Severe drought continues with the coursesin Cha-Am the worst affected. Fortunatelywe have been able to move this month'sCentara World Masters Golf Championshipto Black Mountain, Banyan, and Sea Pinesall which are in good condition and haveemergency water supplies to keep goingeven with no rain until at least the end ofJuly. Let's all pray for rain so all of theother Hua Hin courses come back to theirnormal playing ways very quickly andbefore the August start of the Hua Hin GolfFestival.

    Hanoi, Vietnam

LONG BIEN GOLF COURSE, Hanoi, Vietnam

As if new additions to the Hanoi golf scene at Long Bien and Legend Hill were notenough, another Hanoi golf project has just been announced. This time around it'sVinpearl Hanoi Golf Club with a new golf course situated on a narrow site along thebanks of the Duong River in the Long Bien area. In typical Vinpearl style a full residentialdevelopment is planned around the golf course. The master neighborhood and golf courseis scheduled to come on line in 2020. The Hanoi golf boom is great for locals, but I amnot sure where all the golfers to fill the new golf courses will come from. I guess webetter get together with the clubs and step up our joint marketing efforts.

RANCAMAYA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB, Jakarta, Indonesia

Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism reactivated their big push to promote golf tourism bytaking over 50% of the stands at the Thailand Drive and Dive Expo, held last month inBangkok. The Ministry of Tourism stated that Indonesia has a great potential for sportstourism, especially golf, and could lure more international tourists to the country. Golftourism in Bali and Bintan is already well developed and recent course additions in bothlocations will only raise the appeal of these islands. Major cities such as Jakarta,Surabaya and Bandung also have excellent golf facilities. However, the heavy traffic andsafety concerns of international travelers make it difficult to see how these areas can bemade more appealing for visiting golfers.

Here is a personal tip. My favorite area for golf in Indonesia is Bogor. With Rancamayaleading the pack of 10 top courses, cooler 25-28 degree year round weather, the bestcaddies in Asia, low prices, and none of the traffic or pollution of nearby Jakarta, theBogor area has potential to rival the best golf in Asia. Head there straight from theJakarta airport and you will be amazed at how good things can be. Let me know if youwant to see a Bogor golf package proposal.

WORLD MASTERS GOLFER'S COMMENTOn behalf of my husband and I, we would like to congratulate you on another wonderfulevent. We enjoyed the games, the on-course challenges and meeting new friends from

    around the world.

The team were amazing organising the transport and getting everyone off to a great start ateach course.

I congratulate you on the changes you are making to the handicap system and also makingthe guys play from the tees further back. For most guys they like to play the full course

especially the A graders. I think this will also keep the results within a proper margin makingyour job much easier and hopefully less disgruntled competitors because of the high point

    scores that came in.

We had a wonderful time and will be back next year. Have a great year.

    Yangon, Myanmar

The Pun Hlaing Golf Club, which is also known as the "Pride of Myanmar," is one of thepremier golf courses that are featured in Myanmar. It was the British, back when theywere ruling Myanmar (Burma) during the Anglo-Burmese wars, who constructed quite afew golf courses that they left behind following the country's independence.

Fortunately, those older golf courses have been well-maintained and are still in goodcondition. These golf courses include the Yangon Golf Club that was constructed in 1909.For adventurous golf travelers, these older golf courses can prove to be remarkablevenues, considering that they have undergone tremendous development and renovationover the years.

Yangon is also home to an international standard golf club, the Royal Mingalardon Golf& Country Club. This 7,200 yard golf course was built in 1995 and is an 18 Hole, Par 72.The Royal Mingalardon Golf & Country Club covers an area of 286 acres. The YangonInternational Airport is just 6 kilometers away from this golf club while the city center isat a distance of only 20 kilometers.

The northwest of Myanmar's former capital is home to perhaps the city's leading andmost top-notch golf club, the Pun Hlaing Golf club, which is at a distance of merely 8miles from the city center. Gary Player, the legendary professional golfer, was the onewho designed the club's 7,012 yard golf course, which features 18 holes. From many ofthe holes, the spectacular Hlaing and Pun Hlaing rivers can be spotted, while theShwedagon Pagoda serves as the background. No wonder, it was dubbed "The Pride ofMyanmar" ever since it was constructed back in 2000.

The Yangon Golf Club is Myanmar's oldest golf club. It was built during British rule backin 1909, but it remains unknown who exactly designed it. Regardless, even after thepassage of ages, the club is still in impressive condition, most likely because it has beenrenovated and updated over the years. From North of Downtown Yangon, driving over tothe Yangon Golf Club may take approximately 25 minutes. While all of Yangon's golfclubs are exceptional, the one that stands out the most from the above three isundoubtedly the "Pride of Myanmar," the Pun Hlaing Golf Club.

Royal Mingalardon Golf & Country Club isone of the best and longest in Yangon withits eighteen holes, par 70 internationalstandard course measuring 7,200 yards. The expansive 286 acre club is situated 6and 20 kilometers to the YangonInternational and city center respectively.

Each hole has its individual identity that iscreated using varied water features, thenatural landscape and strategic bunkering.A balance has to be struck by playersbetween admiring the scenic area and theirimmediate golfing challenge. Arguably themost appealing in the area.

It seems like the golf architect PiraponNamatra (Ope) of Golf East listened quitea lot to Tina Turner's famous song 'Breakevery rule' when he designed Nikanti GolfClub, Asia's first 18 hole, par 72 golfcourse comprising three six-hole layoutseach with two par-threes, two par-foursand two par-fives. Thailand's 291st golfcourse was opened in May 2014. TheNikanti Golf Club is almost adjacent toSuwan Golf Club.
