REMEMBER THAT JUNE IS THE MONTH OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS!

BOEING…BOEING… Several weeks ago, I asked our parishioners to do what it took to access the money that their present or former employers make available to educational institutions. Many of you did, and we thank you very much for your kindness in so doing. I wanted to give an update as to the amount we have collected via the “matching funds” programs of the different corporations. Here goes: BOEING - $4,183.80/ HP - $85/ PHILLIPS 66 - $1,000/ MALLINCKRODT - $325 and from SCHNUCKS (in their E-Scrip Program) - $2,609.96.

THE LIGUORIAN This weekend, our parish will be visited by Fr. Joseph Corelli of the Redemptorist Fathers, who will offer all the Masses and make an appeal for the Redemptorists’ fine Catholic magazine, The Liguorian. Please welcome him.

PASTOR GONE I’ll be gone all this week, still up east sponging off my relatives. I leave you in the hands of our sturdy and hard-working Deacon Joe Kroutil, who will have Communion every day this week. I’ll be back for the 4:00PM Confessions and 5:00PM Mass on the 25th.

UPDATES! Here’s the latest, hot off the presses:

1) LOURDES/FATIMA/ROME/ASSISI PILGRIMAGE –Still processing and gathering esti-mates. In the near future, I’ll call a meeting of all who are interested in going so that I can get a better idea of the places you want to visit and the things you want to see. For example, if a significant number have already been to Rome and seen the major sites (e.g., Vatican Museum, Coliseum, etc.), then we may dispense with those and concentrate on things not yet seen. Stay tuned…I’ll let you know.

2) OLIVE WOOD CRICIFIX – We’ve met our goal (and exceeded it by a bit). The extra mon-ey will be used to prepare the setting for it. I've contacted a local liturgical artist and am getting ideas from her for a proper and dignified placement. It will look fabulous!

3) BEYOND SUNDAY – The big, archdiocesan-wide collection will soon be taken up in our parish. Its purpose is to ensure the viability of our wonderful Catholic schools here in the Archdiocese (which are the envy of the rest of the nation!) We are slated to be in the third and final tier (perhaps you know of people in other parishes who have already been asked to give and wondered why you haven’t). As I say, it kicks off here in July. You may well have heard some things about it from people in other parishes. The one thing that everyone has noticed the most is the amounts that they are requesting from each potential donor. (Apparently, there’s been a lot of “sticker shock”.) Please recall that no one is ask-ing you to give beyond your means. (I’m reminded of the story about golf legend, Bobby Jones, who was a lawyer by trade. One of his clients, a man named Arvel, wanted to sue another man who had told him to “go to hell”. Bobby told him, “Let it go, Arvel. I checked the law, and it says you don’t have to go!”) Just remember: whatever they ask for, you give what you can.

4) CONFESSIONAL RENOVATION – The tape is gone and work will start soon. (In my judgment, it’s long overdue.)

5) ESTATE PLANNING – Don’t forget that on Tuesday evening, July 12, Bill Jochens will be here to help with this essential part of life. It’s all free.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK (What follows is a sampling of wisdom from the internet:)

When a couple was asked how they man-aged to stay together for 70 years, they replied: “We were born at a time when if something was broke, you didn’t throw it away…you fixed it!”

“If a cluttered desk is sign of a cluttered mind, then what is an empty desk the sign of?” - Albert Einstein

“If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the fu-ture. If you are at peace, then you are living in the present.” – Lao Tzu (Ed. Note: the present was a lot different in Lao Tzu’s time!)

“The same people who are telling us that ‘homosexuals are born that way and cannot change’ are now telling us that people are not born to a specific gender.”

“Crime is contagious. If the Government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy.” – Justice Louis Brandeis

Daniel Kuehler, our parish pianist for 12 years, will give a benefit concert at St. Angela Merici on Sunday, July 10th at 2:00 pm Since making his Sheldon Concert Hall debut at age 9, Daniel has continued to follow his passion for music, leading him to win local, national, and international competitions and to play throughout the United States, Russia and Portugal. He has received his Bachelors of Music in piano performance at UMSL and is currently pursuing a Masters in piano performance at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. This summer, Daniel has been invited to attend two music festivals in Vienna and Xian, China. Both of these festivals pre-sent rich opportunities to take lessons from and perform with internationally acclaimed pianists at prestigious venues. All proceeds will be contributed to support Daniel's attendance of these festi-vals. On the program will be works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninov, Scarlatti, and Schumann. Admission is free and free-will donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Daniel Kuehler, parishioner, parish pianist and wonderful young man, is giving a ben-efit Concert at St. Angela! Don’t miss this!
