EVENTS (Workshops/ Seminars)

1. CCNA Workshop on CISCO Routing and Switching Configuration- 18-7-

2014

CCNA CISCO workshop was

conducted on 18th July 2014 at CSE

Development Centre One day workshop

had various sessions.

The first session was handled by

Mr.N.Kumaran , Assistant Professor,

Department of IT gave Introduction to

networks and its types , Transmission Media

OSI Layers functions &its protocols and

followed by Mr.K.Sivakumar and

Mr.M.Prasath Pandain Assistant Professor,

Department of CSE on IP Addressing and Subnetting and IPV6 respectively.

The second session is about

Internetworking devices, Packet Tracer

Demo handled by Mr.M.Prasath

Pandian and about Configuring CISCO

Router, Routing Protocols and its

Configuration(Static and Dynamic( RIP)

Routing ) handled by Mr.K.Sivakumar.

The Third and final session was about configuring CISCO Switch , VLAN,

Switching protocols and its functions handled by Mr.K.Sivakumar and Introduction to

Wireless Communications and Configuration Steps by Mr.N.Kumaran, Assistant Professor,

Department of IT.

More than 25+ students and staff members from various departments attended the

workshop .

2. CLOUD COMPUTING WORKSHOP – 22nd July 2014

Cloud Computing workshop was

inaugurated by Professor

Dr.S.Rajalakshmi, Director SJSACC

SCSVMV University.

One day workshop had various

sessions and the first session was

handled by Mr.S.Ramamoorthy,

Assistant Professor, Department of CSE who gave an Introduction about the Cloud

Computing and discussed about the Cloud Data Center Infrastructure, Cloud types,

services and Challenges.

The afternoon session was

handled by Mr.J.S.Shyam Mohan and

Ms.R.Poorvadevi, Assistant Professor,

Department of CSE, and it covered the

topics like Virtualization Concepts,

Cloud Security and Business

Continuity in Cloud computing.

The Final Session of the Workshop Concluded with Real time Demo on Amazon,

Google app Engine and Salesforce Cloud Environment by Mr.S.Ramamoorthy.

Around 80 Students from the various departments like CSE,ECE,IT ,MCA and

BCA actively participated in the workshop

3. CCNA CISCO Networking Academy Program

CISCO Networking Academy Program started its 6th Batch classes from 24th July

2014.

4. IT Essentials Awareness Program -18th July 2014 E-Helium Consultancy

conducted “IT ESSENTIALS”

awareness program to CSE final

year students on 18th July 2014.

Students attended and gained

knowledge on IT needs, industry

awareness and how to enhance their

skills to be employment-ready.

Ms.Vidhya from E-Helium

consultancy gave a speech on Skill gap between college and their first job.

5. IIT-B Spoken Tutorial workshops

Spoken Tutorial workshops on C/C++ conducted from 14th TO

18th July.

II Year : CSE & IT

The IIT –B C/C++ Spoken

Tutorial for II CSE & IT was conducted

from 14th to 18th July 2014 in batch wise

manner during their lab hours .

Students attended the Workshop on

C/C++. It is planned to conduct further

tutorials in other topics.

II Year : MECH

The IIT –B C/C++ Spoken

Tutorial for II MECH was conducted

from 14th to 18th July 2014 in batch wise

manner during their lab hours. Students

attended the Workshop on C/C++. It is

planned to conduct further tutorials in

other topics.

Spoken Tutorial workshops on Java conducted from 14th TO 18th

July.

III Year : CSE

The IIT –B Java Spoken Tutorial for

III CSE was conducted from 28th to 31st July

2014 in batch wise manner during their lab

hours. Students attended the Workshop on

JAVA . It is planned to conduct further

tutorials in other topics.

6.Software Demo

Mr.V.Balu, Assistant professor is given demo for Staff management system, Student management, and library management system.

Mr.E.Shankar, Assistant professor is given demo for Student Attendance, Lessen plan circular, and timetable

Expert Visit:

Prof. S V Raghavan , Scientific Secretary in the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India and Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai and also Adjunct professor in the Department of Computer Science in IIT Delhi and is the Chief Architect of India’s National Knowledge Network (NKN) visited the Computer Science and Engineering Department on 12th July 2014 [Saturday].

In his address to the students, Dr. S. V. Raghavan stressed on the power of the National Knowledge Network and explained that the Network to which the SCSVMV University is connected at 1 Gbps is capable of supporting close to 500 live classrooms, anywhere in the world

The welcome address, Head of the Department Prof. Vasanth Kumar Mehta spoke about contributions made by Prof. Raghavan to the Department through a more than decade long association. Dean Prof. Dr. G. Sriram gave special address on the occasion

First Doctoral Meeting

The First Doctoral Committee meeting for the following research scholars was

held in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The Doctoral committee

from 9th ,15th ,17th ,24th and 25th JULY 2014 reviewed the progress of the scholar by the

following committee members and approved the syllabus for the research methodology exam

after discussion.

Admissions to the Doctoral Research Programme leading to the award of Phd. was held on 24 July 2014 in the CSE Department. An entrance exam was held, followed by interview. The results will be announced by the R&D wing for the following candidates.

Research Colloquium

1. The Tenth Research Colloquium Event was conducted by Department of Computer Science and Engineering on 9th JULY 2014 in the DEPT., of CSE.

Mr. M .Prasath Pandiyan Assistant professor, Department of CSE, gave the presentation on the Topic “MAINFRAME COMPUTERS ” and its future need in the introduction in MAINFRAME COMPUTERS. The session covers the IBM MainFrame Computer serverArchitecture ,Components ,OS used on mainframes and its subsystem. All the Faculty members

from the Department of CSE were attended and shared their views and opinion about the Topic.

2. The Eleventh Research Colloquium Event was conducted by Department of Computer Science and Engineering on 16th JULY 2014 in the DEPT., of CSE. Mrs.T.Jayanthi, Assistant professor, Department of CSE, gave the presentation on the topic “DATA MINIG TOOL - QLIKVIEW ”.The session covers the Qlikview is the self service business intelligence software that helps organizations make transformative discoveries that lead to better decision.

QlikView goes beyond what other BI software provides by enabling users to analyze and search their data visualizations, make associations, and uncover insight that other BI tools can't find.

With QlikView, we can run reports and create dashboards quickly to detect market changes and product sales in real time. This tool will helps to those who doing research work in Data Mining. All the Faculty members from the Department of CSE were attended and shared their views and opinion about the Topic.

3. The Twelfth Research Colloquium was held in the Department of CSE on 23rd July 2014.

The topic was “jQuery Mobile ”. The Presentation was made by Mrs V.Geetha, Assistant Professor in the CSE department. The initial discussion was on the jQuery Mobile . jQuery Mobile is a framework for creating mobile web applications.jQuery Mobile works on all popular smartphones and tablets. jQuery Mobile uses HTML5 & CSS3

for laying out pages with minimal scripting.jQuery Mobile takes the "write less, do more" to a new level: It automatically design web pages with an attractive and "easy-to-use" look, that will work the same way on all mobile devices. So jquery Mobile Framework provides a Standard Code that will be compatible for all web browsers.

4. The Thirteenth Research Colloquium was held in the Department of CSE on 30th July 2014.

Mr .J. SHYAM MOHAN, Assistant professor, Department of CSE, gave the presentation on the topic “VIRTUAL MACHINE” . The session covered the Virtual Machine Introduction, Types of Virtualization

and basic VM applications with few examples. . All the Faculty members from the Department of CSE were attended and shared their views and opinion about the Topic.

July 2014 .

and applications” Organized by IIT-MADRAS ,Chennai on 17th -19th July 2014 .

5. Dr.S.Santhi, Assistant Professor, attended Workshop on “GPU programming and

1. Soujanya Murali [11129A113] III CSE B won I Prize in Throw Ball Match conducted

in Vellore Christian Medical College.

PLACEMENT & TRANING

1. Cognizant Certified Student Program (CCSP) Test conducted on 26th

July 2014. CCSP test was conducted by

Cognizant as a certification program for final year students .It was a single assessment that tested the student’s knowledge of fundamental subjects . The student will be awarded a certificate on clearing the assessment test

2. Final Year Students undergoing a Training Programme in Hitachi

Solutions Chennai from 28th JULY to 01th August 2014 .

A team of students visited M/s Hitachi Solutions in DLF IT Park, Chennai on 17th MAY 2014

and students were evaluated to participate in the Training-cum-Placement programme. 5 students

were selected and are undergoing a Training Programme from 28th July 2014 to 01-08-2014.

The communication skills [60 Hrs] course

for Final year students commenced from 21th

July 2014 and is being held every evening for

2hrs (5.30 pm to 7.30 pm ) and on Saturdays

from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm at CSE Dept.

4. Alumnus Talk – 12,19 July 2014

Mr. Vivek Surya, Alumnus of the Department and presently working with Zoho,

visited the department. On 12th and 19th July and conducted training sessions in various

technologies for the benefit of final year CSE students.
