St. Patrick’s of Tekamah:

Stewardship Thoughts “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

- MATTHEW 11:30- When we think of being good stewards, we may think that God is asking too much of us when He calls us to generously share our time, talent and treasure. However, we must remember that we are not “owners” of anything; we are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given us. All He is asking is that we give back a small portion of what He has already given to us. Children’s good deed: “I played with a new friend at the swimming pool; I put away the laundry; I took my dogs for a walk.”

Prayer for Our Nation

God our Father, Giver of life, we entrust the United States of

America to Your loving care. You are the rock on which this nation was founded. You alone are the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Reclaim this land for your glory and dwell among Your people. Send Your Spirit to touch the hearts of our nation’s leaders. Open their minds to the great worth of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Remind Your people that true happiness is rooted in seeking and doing Your will. Through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, Patroness of our land, grant us the courage to reject the “culture of death.” Lead us into a new millennium of life. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

From Fr. Kevin…

This Sunday’s Mass readings reveal to us

that Jesus is a Savior who has come to us so

that we can come to him, learn from him,

and come to “know” him. This “knowing” is

more than intellectual knowledge; rather, it is

an intimate ‘heart-to-heart’ relationship with

Jesus. Jesus desires to reveal his heart to us:

A heart that is both meek and humble—and a

heart that has been pierced out of love for us!

Also, Jesus desires to reveal the Father to us

so that we may know Him as well. All of this

is possible now that “The Spirit of God

dwells in you” (Rom. 8:9) through Baptism.

In this Sunday’s second reading from the

Letter to the Romans, St. Paul reveals that

the Holy Spirit is both “The Spirit of the one

who raised Jesus from the dead” (Rom.

8:11)—the Father—and also, the “Spirit of

Christ” (Rom. 8:9). May we come to “know”

both the Father and Jesus, and believe in the

Love that They have for us. May we witness

to the world this Love. Peace, Fr. Kevin

FAITH FACT What about the Mass and the Cross?

As Roman Catholics we believe we are part of the Body of Christ, the living Church on earth. Some people would describe Mass or the liturgy as the two beams of the cross: the vertical beam representing our relationship with God and the horizontal beam representing our relationship with all our brothers and sisters in Christ. Whenever we pray, we make the sign of the cross and bless ourselves, mindful of God who is three persons in one, and we are challenged to recognize all other Christians who are part of God’s family. We are connected and so is the cross in our journey of faith.

The Lighter Side

The troops training for a special mission were on a tough obstacle course; swimming across a raging river, running up a vertical cliff and scrambling through barbed-wire entanglements. At the end of the circuit, the colonel barked to a farm boy in the company, “How’d you like it, soldier?” “Shucks, sir,” drawled the trooper, “where I come from, we have to go through country like that just to get to the barn.”
