14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“As the Lord spoke to me, the spirit entered me and set
me on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking
say to me, ‘Son of man, I am sending
you…’” (Ezekiel 2:2-3)
God asks each of us to do some special work for Him.
He gives us the resources we need to do His work.
However, do we listen to God when He calls? Do we
get up on our feet and give our talent to do the work He
asks of us? Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped,
he equips the called.
God’s call on our individual lives is something he ex-
pects us to be willing to give. We are created not only
by God but for God, not for ourselves. My, that is diffi-
cult to hear! In the New Testament we learn that we are
temples of the Holy Spirit. We were with God in prayer
and ask him to lead you to the area of ministry/service
that he desires for you to commit your time, talent, and
treasure too. There is great joy in serving where God
wants you!! (Adapted from: Making Stewardship a Way of Life).

FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST
Mark’s Gospel account today is built on a double astonishment or amazement: the neigh-
bors and family of Jesus are astonished that he taught in the synagogue with wisdom and
worked powerful signs. Jesus, in turn, is amazed that they have no faith in him because they
know his origins, not because of any fault with his teaching or ministry. As with many of
Mark’s passages, we get a rather intimate glimpse here of the human part of Jesus’ two-fold
nature. To reinforce his point, Mark tells of Jesus’ return to his native place, and further points
out that he is in the midst of his own family members there. From the very people he expected
the most, Jesus received the least. In the day of the Gospel’s writing, Mark was attempting to
illustrate a lesson to the house of Israel: the God of the covenant expected the greatest faith
from the house of Israel, but often received the least. This is a good source for reflection on our
part, we who are Jesus’ followers today. For the wisdom of Christ to continue and for our lives
to be seen as signs of his power, he must expect and be able to find great faith among us. Will
he? Can he? Does he? Or is he, once again, amazed by its absence? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

FAMILY PROMISE
Thank you to the 34 parishioners
who spent 244 hours keeping 2 fam-
ilies, including 5 teenagers, cool
and very well fed a few weeks ago. We have cooks,
evening hosts, overnight hosts, people who donate
food and needed items, and people who help set up
and break down our Faith Formation building to make
a home for some of our neighbors who need assis-
tance. We will be hosting again in late August and
your help is needed. Isn’t this what it means to help
thy neighbor and feed the hungry? We all know that
the more help the easier the task so please pray hard
on this one and spend a few hours helping, you will
reap the rewards.
