Hello! Let’s start today’s column with a prayer together, you, me, and your spouse. “Dear Holy Spirit, enkindle in our family the fire of your love. Help me and my spouse to accept willing your calling for us in our lives, to educate our children and ourselves and help our family to grow in love and sacrifice for others, and have the goal of living forever with you in heaven. In Je-sus’ name, amen.” The religious education program we use at St Anthony’s is based on the teachings of St Ignatius of Loyola. He was focused on helping people find God in the everyday moments of life. One of his famous means of finding God was through scripture, I’d like you to walk thru the Bible with me as parents and encounter God together over the next several columns. Let’s start with Moses. Moses was considered the greatest figure in Jewish history. But he didn’t start out that way. Open your Bible to Exodus chapter 3 and read the whole chapter with your spouse. It’s found on page 66 of the maroon Bibles we offer in the parish (if you don’t have one - stop by the office!) Now, let’s read it again, together, and imagine ourselves in the story. Can you see the brightness of the burning bush in verse 2, or feel it’s heat? Every calling by God begins with ENCOUNTER. In your case, your encounter with God to your calling as a parent could have been the first time you heard your child cry in the hospital, or the first time you held him or her in your arms. God was calling you to a mission! Read verse 11 with me again slowly. Imagine how Moses felt! One day he takes care of sheep. What a calm and peaceful job. The next day his whole life changes and God wants him to lead and educate an unknown number of people. And Moses wasn’t a leader! As parents, when we hear the call of our mission to be the primary educators of our children and leaders of our families spiritually, do we identify with Moses’ words here? In fact, even after God gives him MIRACLES (read chapter 4 verses 1-14), he still says he can’t do the job. As parents, do you sometimes just not feel qualified to teach your children? And yet, God is 100% behind you! Even still, he won’t let you fail in your calling. Reread verses 14 to 16. Who are the Aarons in your life? Who have been called by God to help partner with you in your vocation as spiritual educators of your children? In this parish you are blessed with almost 30 trained CATECHISTS! They have been undergoing hours of training this summer together, in Eng-lish and Spanish, all with the goal of helping your children and walking with you in your mission. Please pray for them, as they pray for you! Register your children now for the fall so our important educational work at St Anthony’s can fulfill her mission of making disciples. And resolve to attend the special parent classes on Sundays to help you personally in your vocation as parents. Petition the Holy Spirit to continue blessing our work here with young ones, parents, and families, with the goal of helping all we meet get to heaven! Your fellow servant, Chris

“Dear Jesus, in everything I say, and in everything I do, in everything today, may it glorify YOU!”
