A single mother who has a child with special needs
works two jobs and sacrifices much of her own
pleasures in order to be available for her son. Being
the best mother possible is important to her and
brings her joy. We are willing to make great and
often heroic sacrifices for those people and things
that matter most to us. Unless there is something of
obvious importance to us in our immediate path,
we can easily approach life in a more haphazard
and chaotic way. We jump from one thing to
another, responding to whatever it is that is
competing for our attention at that moment. When
everything is important, nothing is important.
If we do not wear the right pair of glasses, we can
get all too easily caught up in the superficial stuff
and neglect paying attention to the things that
really matter. The kingdom of God is like the pearl
of great price that is worth selling everything for so
that it can be obtained. Based on where I invest my
time and energy each day, I really wonder whether
I am serving God’s kingdom or my own. Have you
ever considered tracking how you spend your time?
You may be surprised! We allow our agendas to set
the clock of our lives. We forget that joy and a true
sense of purpose are not going to be found in
following that timepiece. Joy is the expression of
the happiness that is discovered when living in the
kingdom of God. When our agenda matches God,
not only do we leap for joy but God leaps with
delight as well. Our well-being is what matters most
to God.
Can you imagine God delighting in you? It is easy to
deaden our senses to the whole reality of God and
the joy that living the Gospel can bring. The
demands of secular life and the agendas competing
for our attention can quickly do that. We can get
tired and spiritually apathetic. But if we can see our
way through all of the conflicting voices and hear
the voice of God, we can rediscover our zeal and
passion and redirect our efforts. When we begin to
see as God sees, we can rise each day and notice
what really needs our attention and embrace it with
exuberance. Be careful, though. It may not be what
we originally had on our list. Responding to it,
however, will be worth putting everything else
aside.

ANNUAL 4th Degree KNIGHTS
OF COLUMBUS CORN ON
THE COB SALE
It's almost that time of year for the
Annual 4th Degree Knights of
Columbus Corn on the Cob
Sale. We typically get a very short
notice, so stay tuned for a pulpit
announcement as soon as we hear
for sure.
This corn comes fresh out of the field near Kasson,
MN and it is mighty tasty. The cost is $5/dozen or
$3/half dozen and the proceeds will go to the St.
James Coffee House. Listen for the announcement
and when you hear it, look for the white Ford Pickup
full of golden and delicious corn on the cob, freshly
picked for the Knights of Columbus. There was a
huge demand last year so we will have even more
available. The weekend when it is available, we will
sell it from 4-6 pm Saturday and 9-11:30 am on
Sunday.
YouTube and Communion Distribution
St. Pius X will continue broadcasting Daily and
Weekend liturgies for the benefit of individuals who
are unable to attend Mass in person. Reminder,
those attending Mass online, or otherwise, are able to
receive communion at 10:45 am Sunday mornings in
the south entryway of the church. For the safety of
all, we ask if you arrive prior to 10:45 am, please
remain in your vehicle until the church has cleared of
the Mass attendees. Please be cautious and patient
with the increased traffic in the south parking lot.

Scrip Rebate Update
SCRIP is a gift card or
certificate that can be
used like cash at
participating stores.
Cards and certificates
are purchased at face value and a percentage of that
purchase can be directed to St. Pius X in the form of a
rebate. Currently, we have 12 families who direct their
rebate back to St. Pius X, using the SCRIP program.
Scrip Summer Hours at Lourdes High School:
Monday through Thursday: 9:00am - 1:00pm. Masks
are required. Markers will be in place on the floor for
social distancing. Walk-in purchases would be from
existing limited stock, so it is best to pre-order if
possible. No Scrip sales at Church offices at this time.
Pre-order purchases are strongly encouraged by
Monday morning 10:00am deadline: Place your orders
at ShopWithScrip.com. Email your order to Teresa
Goodrich at [email protected]. Leave a phone
order at 507-280-0349. Pre-orders will be available for
pickup starting Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.

Seeds of Wisdom Summer FUNdraiser
2020!
In 2016, Father John Lasuba realized a longtime dream
when Seeds of Wisdom in South Sudan opened a
school in his hometown of Pukuka, South Sudan.
When turmoil erupted, it forced the closure of the
school, and many families took refuge in nearby
Uganda. Thanks to generous benefactors, Seeds of
Wisdom’s work educating the children goes on, with
more than 200 students enrolled in Catholic boarding
schools or learning at sites in the refugee camps that
are staffed by our teachers. Help us!

We wrapped up VBS last week as we learned
about the virtue of PERSEVERANCE. Our families
read the parable of the Persistent Friend who
kept knocking until his neighbor loaned him
loaves of bread. We learned about the
importance of persevering, even when times are
tough – and to know that God ALWAYS hears us
when we pray, even if He doesn’t answer in the
way we think He will. We talked about St.
Monica and Jesus’ mother Mary as examples of
great saints who showed perseverance. This week
the kids made decade rosaries and called friends
and family who we haven’t connected with in a
while to ask how we could pray for them. Then
we wrapped up our VBS month with a treasure
hunt and obstacle course that required we put
into practice everything we learned. A huge
thank you to all of our volunteers and families
who made this VBS alternative a success!

Donor Request
This may seem like an unconventional request to you,
but I find myself in a difficult situation. Five years
ago, I had lung cancer and had both surgery and
Chemo therapy. However, as you may know this
treatment is hard on the body which resulted in a
process of destroying my kidney. I am cancer free but
in need of a transplant. At the present time, I have
dialysis 3 days a week at Mayo NE Clinic. I am
approved for a transplant and currently waiting for a
donor.
Interested persons need to complete a questionnaire
at Mayoclinic.org/living donor. At the bottom please
place my name (James Blum) and BD 05-24-1955. All
costs will be paid by my insurance. The donor will
have no expense. Please feel free to contact me at
[email protected] or 507-288-3856 if you are
interested. Thank you! Jim Blum
