Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In the first reading, Abraham implores

God’s mercy in saving innocent

inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The second reading reminds us that

through baptism, we were given new

life in Christ and the promise of

salvation. The Gospel recounts the

disciples asking Jesus to teach them

to pray. He does so with the words

of the Our Father. Jesus taught

throughout his life and ministry that

God the Father watches over us and

provides for what we most need. We

must try to trust and rely upon God a

little more each day and ask him for

the deepest desires of our heart. For

whoever seeks, finds; and whoever

knocks has the door opened. May

God Bless you all as you are lifted up

in my prayers each day.

Ethics and Integrity in Ministry

Who needs to take the EIM course? The Diocese requires: Work or service in ministry with minors or vulnerable adults pertains to any ministry, program or organization that serves youth or vulnerable adults in any manner, or which functions at a time and place where minors or vulnerable adults are typically present. This includes, but is not limited to: religious education, youth ministry, Catholic schools, homeschooling organizations that use church property or identify as a parish ministry, homebound ministry, hospital ministry, parish nursery and mother’s day out or pre-school programs, liturgical ministries (i.e. hospitality, ushers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, lectors, choir, music ministry, etc.), societies of St Vincent de Paul, parish or school sponsored scout groups and other activities or programs for youth. EIM compliance is required for leaders and members of parish and diocesan organizations that may serve youth, even though their primary function is not necessarily to serve youth (i.e. ladies or men’s clubs, Knights of Columbus, Knights of Peter Claver, vocations ministries, etc.). For members of such organizations, the EIM compliance requirement may be waived if participation is limited to times and places when minors are not typically present. EIM compliance is required for all persons in any parish or school leadership position (i.e. ministry and organization leaders and Pastoral, Finance, or Stewardship Council members, school advisory board members, etc.).

Reaching Out:

Three Movements of the Spiritual Life

Cedarbrake Retreat Center invites you to join a retreat on Aug. 12-14, 2016, based on how

Henri Nouwen, author of Reaching Out, views our spiritual ascent as evolving in

three movements: loneliness to solitude, hostility to hospitality and illusion to prayer. The more we are able to understand our own

struggles in these areas the more fully we will be able to embrace a more prayerful and genuine life that is also open to others’ needs. Brian Egan and Beverly Collin will lead this retreat. Cost is $210 for private room, $170

for shared room and $95 for commuter rate; all meals included. To register or for

additional information, visit http://www.cedarbrake.org/#section-62

GARDEN MINISTRY

Join us the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:30am as we work in the gardens surrounding our church and the school gardens (where faculty park). Bring regular gardening tools – weeding tools, clippers, kneeling pad, gloves, water, insect repellent, hat, sunscreen. All are welcome! Call Mary Ann Everett at 254.721.0931 for more information or to volunteer.

SCOUT NEWS

Scout Troop 152 had an active

summer, attending Lost Pines Scout Ranch in

Bastrop for a week long Camp, earning merit

badges and having fun. The Pack had cub scouts

attend a week long Day Camp at UMHB in

Belton. Cub scouts also joined an overnight

Camp at Camp Tahuaya. Special thanks to

Phillip Arrien, David and Maureen Bennett for

taking their time to be camp leaders. Older scouts

worked on staff all of June, teaching, working and

being of service to their younger peers. It was a

great growing experience for them.

Troop, Pack & Crew 152 invite all boys and

families to join the adventure of scouting. Come

out to our annual end summer Swim Party. This

year will be a twilight event from 8-10PM on

Friday, August 5th

at Summit Rec. & Fitness

Center at 620 Fryers Creek Circle in Temple.

Contact Maureen Bennett at 254.217.5668 if you

would like to attend or join the Scouts.
