Fair Set Up – Important

All parents, leaders and 4-H’ers - your help is needed. July 22, 6:00 P.M. Exhibit Buildings need to be arranged with ta-bles, chairs, display boxes, poster racks, etc. Every club is required to send a minimum of four people to help with set up and clean up. (approx. 1 1/2 hours). Bring buckets, cloths, etc.

Fair Clean Up For All Buildings

Clean up will be August 1 starting at 8:00 a.m. for the Exhibit Build-ings. Livestock clean up will follow the Livestock Auction. EVERY-ONE’S help is needed. The more people that help the quicker it gets done.

Judging

4-H Members are welcome and encouraged to be present during the project judging. Parents should refrain from contact with the judges. If your child can not be there for judging, comments will be

put on the scorecard for later viewing.

Record Sheets

ALL completed record sheets or books and/or labels must be brought to the Fair with your project if not already turned in. Records must be signed by your leader or project helper.

Poster Rule Think of a poster like a dollar bill. You read the dollar horizontally and a poster should be the same way. All posters must have a thin hard back to make them stand when placed on the poster racks and posters must be covered with plastic. Your project will be lowered one grade at judging if it is not displayed in the correct position. Please use thin material for backing such as paneling, plywood or thin Styrofoam board, 1/4" or less in thickness. Posters should be less than 1/2" thick overall.

NOTE: Your poster MUST include a label. This 2" x 4" label is usually placed in the lower right corner. The label should include Name, Club, Current Grade and Division or Level. See sample label in Rule Book. Please refer to the Allen County 4-H Rule Book

for additional details. Be sure to use a 22” x 28” poster.

IMPORTANT INFO for Posters, Notebooks, and Display Boards All posters, notebooks, and display boards must include a refer-ence list indicating where information was obtained, giving credit to the original author, to complete the 4-H member’s exhibit. This reference list should/might include web site links, people and professionals interviewed, books, magazines, etc. It is recom-mended this reference list be attached to the back of a poster or display board, be the last page of a notebook, or included as part of the display visible to the public. A judge is not to discredit an exhibit for the manner in which references are listed.

Blue Accumulative Record Sheets

Attached is the 2016 Blue Accumulative Record Sheet that needs to be filled out and turned in at the 4-H Fair Office by July 31. All projects and 4-H activities on this sheet will be transferred to your permanent record kept in our office. Your points will then be figured to determine who will be 4-H Top and Honor Achievers. Extra copies may be picked up in the 4-H Fair Office during the fair.

All 12th Graders You should have received a letter from the Extension Office by mid-May regarding your Final Year. If you have NOT received the letter, please call the Extension Office ASAP.

Foods & Microwave Judging

All Food and Microwave exhibits will be judged July 18 at the Fairgrounds in the Home & Family Arts Building. Check-in from 5-6 pm. Judging begins at 6 pm. Members are responsible for getting their exhibits to the Fairgrounds on this date for judging because there will not be a judge at the Fair. We will take photos of foods projects this year instead of collecting samples. Those photos will be displayed at the fair. Selection of Champions, Reserve Champions, and State Fair Entries will take place when the judge has completed their judging assignment. These exhibits may be picked up at that time.

Record Sheets and Forms on the Web Site

If you need a last minute record sheet-check out the Allen County Extension Office website at www.extension.purdue.edu/allen. Hov-er over Youth and then click 4-H Projects-Allen County. Many of the record sheets are available there. This can save you a drive to the Extension Office at the last minute, but please don’t wait until the last minute as the website could go down, power go out, or any number of scenarios could occur that might keep you from access-

ing the forms.

4-H BBQ Contest

The Contest this year will be held on July 30 at 3 pm at the Fair Fun Zone outside the Exhibit Buildings. Participants cannot set up until 2:30 pm. Participants will set up in designated areas by level. Vehicles will be allowed to unload briefly but not park in the area.

Minis

All Mini members are invited to bring up to THREE of the Mini pro-jects you have completed. Bring your item(s) to the Exhibit Building, July 23 between 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Enter your item(s) in the area marked as MINI. Leaders will be there to help you. Your item will be looked over by an adult or teen leader and you will be given a ribbon. You must pick up your item on July 31 between 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the same location. Be sure to attach a label with your name to the exhibit. Bring item only and not the manual. Each Mini 4-H member exhibiting will also receive a free 4-H item. You will be able to pick it

up during check in.

In Potato, the Champions and Reserve Champi-ons will have their entire exhibit left on display. Other entries will have a small plate left with all other potatoes being donated. LIVESTOCK

Vet Checks

Reminder that you do not need to have health papers if the animals you are exhibiting are coming from a farm in Indiana. However, ani-mals that are not healthy or exhibit signs of illness should not be brought to the fairgrounds – leave them at home.

Animal Liability

Reminder that owners of any animals at the Fair are responsible for any/all damage that the animal may do to other fair visitors or buildings. Take extreme caution when moving or working with your animals at all times. Make sure that they are properly fed/watered and have clean pens/stalls.

2017 Executive Livestock Committees

Who makes the decisions for rules/awards/judges/workshops for your livestock project? An Executive Committee for each livestock specie (except horse & lama) of up to four adults and two 4-H’ers (4-H’ers must have 3 years of project work in that specie), are elected at the fair. Only current 4-H members enrolled in the project may vote. Any adult or 4-H’er wishing to have their name on the ballot should notify Barb Thuma and complete a bio sheet and return it to the Extension Office by July 15. We need people to get involved with solutions that benefit everyone. These committees will be responsi-ble for the rules, awards, workshops and exhibit of their specie. Nominees not elected will be listed as resource leaders. Elections, if needed, will occur at the project check-in or weigh in.

stock fair office no later than 4:00 p.m. the day you plan to stay. 4. Members selected to stay overnight must meet in the Farm Bu-

reau Show Barn at 10:00 p.m. or as soon after a show is com-pleted if still in progress at 10:00 p.m. Horse & Pony meet at the Show Ring.

5.It is the responsibility of the livestock superintendents to secure adults and indicate those individuals to the 4-H Board.

6. Members selected must wear the appropriate wrist band. Others will be asked to leave. Members must stay in the livestock areas of the fairgrounds.

7. Quiet time is from midnight until 6:00 a.m. Members will be ex-pected to help clean up the barns, help keep animals in their stall/pens, and whatever else might need to be done.
