• What is a Sandbox?– PC Mag – “A restricted environment in which certain

functions are prohibited. For example, deleting files and modifying system information such as Registry settings and other control panel functions may be prohibited.”

– Wikipedia – “The sandbox typically provides a tightly controlled set of resources for guest programs to run in, such as scratch space on disk and memory. Network access, the ability to inspect the host system or read from input devices are usually disallowed or heavily restricted.”

– Web pages, javascript and browser plug-ins such as Java, Adobe Flash and MS Silverlight are sandboxed.

– Adobe Reader runs .pdf files in a sandbox.– UAC restricts application program access to system files

and settings (a weak sandbox).

sandbox to contain or prevent downloads & installs. – Programs of dubious reputation that you want to try.
