Bethany Com- munity School is finishing up the June summer program and soon it will be very quiet around here. If there is one thing that Bethany Christian Church is known for in the community, it is the Community School. Sure, we have wonderful worship on Sundays; could teach classes about hospitality; and, are known throughout the de- nomination for our generosity. However, when looking just outside our doors, the biggest im- pact we make is with the Community School. Every September, the halls fill with small children and their parents. You can tell which kids have been here before and which ones are new. Sometimes, it’s that they are so small, 10 months is the starting age for the school. Most of the time, it’s that they have that look on their face of uncertainty. It doesn’t take very long for that look to change, from uncertainty to ex- citement. The teachers greet each child with love and support. The kids are shown the “Bethany way” of treating all people with respect and using our words to express ourselves. You can find in the classrooms plenty of child appropriate teaching tools making a wonderful environ- ment. What sets us apart is the extras you’ll find that will spark your interests just as much as the children. From worm or ant habitats to child- created museums of major works of art, there is something special around every corner. I ask each one of you to keep our preschool in your prayers this summer as the teachers and children take a break from the very good work of learning and play. The summer is definitely here.

The heat is undeniable. Travel

plans are swirling. Trips to the lo-

cal pool define many schedules,

especially those with children. Bethany Com-

munity School is finishing up the June summer

program and soon it will be very quiet around

here.

If there is one thing that Bethany Christian

Church is known for in the community, it is the

Community School. Sure, we have wonderful

worship on Sundays; could teach classes about

hospitality; and, are known throughout the de-

nomination for our generosity. However, when

looking just outside our doors, the biggest im-

pact we make is with the Community School.

Every September, the halls fill with small children

and their parents. You can tell which kids have

been here before and which ones are new.

Sometimes, it’s that they are so small, 10

months is the starting age for the school. Most

of the time, it’s that they have that look on their

face of uncertainty. It doesn’t take very long

for that look to change, from uncertainty to ex-

citement.

The teachers greet each child with love and

support. The kids are shown the “Bethany way”

of treating all people with respect and using

our words to express ourselves. You can find in

the classrooms plenty of child appropriate

teaching tools making a wonderful environ-

ment. What sets us apart is the extras you’ll find

children. From worm or ant habitats to child-

created museums of major works of art, there is

something special around every corner.

I ask each one of you to keep our preschool in

Disciples Women, Past, Present, Future

Keynote: Reverend Leslie Dotson

Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6, 2012

Make plans now to attend the Northeast Area Disciples Women Retreat on October 5 and 6

at Camp Christian. The theme “Disciples Women, Past, Present, and Future” will be led by the

wonderful Reverend Leslie Dotson. The service project for the retreat will be Pack-A-Sacks for

homeless pantries in Northeast Oklahoma. The sacks, modeled after the ones that First Chris-

tian Church in Tulsa distributes each day, will be assembled at the retreat. Each gallon stor-

age bag will be filled with several of the following items in self-opening, individual servings:

Fruit cups/Applesauce/Pudding cups

Peanut butter/Cheese crackers

Beanie Weenies/Vienna Sausage

Chips/Pretzels

Small water/Juice

Breakfast/Granola bars

Plastic spoons and forks/napkin

Bethany Disciples Women will be collecting all these items in September; but please start sav-

ing any pre-packaged, take-out silverware that you don’t use now. They are perfect for

these mini-meal bags. There will be a collection box in the fellowship hall containing a sample

“Pack-A-Sack”. Your help is appreciated.

The first Disciples Women's meeting for the year will be

August 14 at 6:00 p.m. at Bethany Church. It will be a salad

supper. Each person bring your favorite

salad!

What Do You Know About Noah?

Everyone who has been to

Sunday School has heard about

Noah. He built the ark. Even Bill

Cosby knows that. But have you read

the story? Do you know what it

means for us today?

The story of Noah is the focus of

our Bible Study class this Sunday at

9:30 a.m. If you would like to join us,

please read Genesis 8:20-9:17.
