CONNECTIONS FOR HOPE DELOITTE IMPACT DAY YIELDS BENEFITS FOR CONNECTIONS FOR HOPE Mercy Hospital’ s Keyhole Gardens Provide Affordable Nutrition Sometimes the best ideas are uncomplicated ideas. A keyhole garden is an example. This simple form of gardening is a low cost, easily implemented idea that is making a big impact in developin g countries . As a pilot project , the May 2011 UMVIM team built keyhole gardens on the grounds of Mercy Hospital. It’s called a keyhole because the round, raised, stone bed looks like one from above, or like a cake with a slice cut out. ~KEYHOLE GARDENS, cont’d on page 2 Pictured above: Sister T aiwo Sesay proudly displays Me rcy Hospital’s “keyhole garden,” a program to supplement patients’ diets. For the second year in a row , Deloitt e provided an Impact Day in June for all of the partner organizations at Connections for Hope. The day focused on long range planning, marketing/branding and iden- tifying the metrics that will identify success. Prior to Impact Day, several Deloitte staff worked with the partners to identify topics that would be helpf ul and provide long-term impact. Because of these me etings, a series of long-range planning discussions occurred. This l ong-range planning will guide the future of the center, and will help inform our local area on needed expansion of services and gaps in services. The ultimate result is better service to our neighbors in need.
