Race Management Seminar Sponsored by the Regatta Committee

The Regatta Committee presented a seminar on Race Manage-ment on June 2nd. The committee was fortunate to secure Susie Schneider, recent Chairperson of the Eastern Yacht Club Race Committee and current member, as well as principle race officer for many local, regional, national and international sailing events, to give the seminar. The results of the Special Meeting of the Membership on May 20, 2009 follow. There was considerable discussion on each of the proposed bylaws changes. For a proposed bylaw to pass there must be a 2/3rds vote of members present and voting to be adopted. 1. The proposed bylaw change that would have increased the annual chits to $200, would have required members joining after Sept 1 to purchase $50 worth of chits, and would have eliminated chits for Non Resident Members was defeated. 2. The two proposed bylaw changes that would have created a two payment plan with payments due November 1 and March 1st, and imposed fines if not paid with in 30 days of the respective dates, was defeated. 3. The changes to Article III, Section 3. C.; was passed. This means that new members joining after June 1st will have their dues prorated for the remainder of the year. 4. The proposal to adopt social membership was tabled for further consideration as discussion centered on concerns about specifics and implementation.

The CPYC Dinghy Rac-ing program is off to a strong start with 13 new program participants checking out CPYC this season, and another 4 existing members bring-ing boats down. We have 13 Lasers on the docks and 6 V15s on dolly’s and are regularly seeing 8 Lasers and 3 V15s on the line Thursday night despite the weather. In the coming weeks we are hoping to see Youth sailors join us racing Thursday Nights in 420s and Laser Radials. We have a very strong number of female sailors in the radial class including members Julia Marsh and new com-ers Andrea Nielsen, Kate Bogart, and Kate Hender-son.

The Dinghy racing participants, Olaf Beck, George Brun-Cottan, Derrick Rice, Max Sadler and Andrew Davis have been down for 4 different work parties. They were joined all day one Sunday by Jim Rudser, Sandy Bradley, Genieve Bradley, Marty O’Brien, Chuckie Evans, Hatch Brown, Matt Evans, Oscar, Matt Rudser, Joe Griffiths to finish the docks for Youth Sailing, including building new 420s cradles, completing carpeting and (in progress) building new Opti-racks. Overall the ap-pearance, functionality and safety of our floats should be greatly improved for all the program sharing the docks.

Wed. Night Racers—Order Your Food Ahead

Boat Captain (or designee) is responsible for any pre-ordered food and collection of payment for this food after sailing.

Prior to sailing, sailors wishing to pre-order food must fill out the appropriate form com-pletely. (Available at the Pilot House) Please pay special attention if your item requires a temperature (burger – medium, for example), special requests (cheddar cheese on burger) or bread and side choices. If not specified, kitchen will assume most popular requests. Form, including member number or credit card number, must be turned into the bartender on duty. No identifying number means your order will not be completed. After sailing, a representative from boat should call to notify the bar that they are return-ing. (617-846-9801) At this time, bartender will open a tab with the information from the form and ring food in. Member/ Sailor is responsible for payment of food when closing tab. If food is rung in, chit or credit card will be charged should member/ sailor leave. Tab can be added to for drinks, or paid for at time of food service. Any questions, please contact Club Manager at 617.285.9069 or [email protected]

Pre-ordering is not mandatory, but helpful on busy nights. Please be patient as we implement the new system.

*** We hear that Ron Sandstrom and Joe Zambella are battling it out for to win the Star Class Spring Series.

*** Belated condolences to the family of Elaine Berardi. Elaine was a long time member of Ladies Bowling.

*** Angela Duplin Hickey and Donna Hanson both competed in the Rhodes 19 East Coast Championships in Hull.

*** Our sympathy to the Roberts family on the passing of Kathy’s father.

*** We extend our sympathies to the Por-ter family on the death of Loretta’s mother.

*** Courageous Sailing Center is hosting their annual Make-A-Mark fundraising event on July 14th. For more informa-tion on the Make-A-Mark check out www.courageoussailing.org or call 617 268-7243.

*** Another grandchild has joined the O’Brien family. Congratulations to grandparents Dave and Paulette, and uncle Dave.

*** Sadly we report the passing of long time past member, A. Cecil Roy.
