This will help give them lots of practice sharing with others. Here’s how to do it: Make a circle of chairs with just enough for one chair per person. Tape the “Share Chair” label (on page 8 below) onto one of the chairs (or if you don’t want to print anything, just designate a certain chair as the “Share Chair”). Play a song, such as “Give, Said the Little Stream,” while everyone walks in a circle around the chairs. July 12-18

“equal in earthly things” and in “heavenly things” (D&C 78:6).

• Pause the music at random times and have everyone sit in the chair that is closest to them.

• Whoever is in the “Share Chair” will get to share something with everyone else. You can either let them

find something to share or have them pick from the cards of things that can be shared on page 8 below.

Make sure to have some kind of snack, treats, etc. ready for the kids to share if using the cards.

• Keep all of the chairs in the circle and repeat as many times as wanted.

• Remind everyone else to say “Thanks” when something is shared with them.

• You could also simplify by just taking turns sitting in the “Share Chair” and sharing different items.

5. The Ultimate Sharer – Who is the ultimate sharer? (Heavenly Father) What are some things He has given to us?

Review the scripture hop for D&C 78:17 and talk about what other kinds of blessings He might want to give us.

How can we show thanks to Him for current and future blessings?

• Draw pictures of things God has given us. You can use blank paper or a copy of page 9 below for this.

From the manual: “Family members could draw pictures of blessings from God they are thankful for.

What are we doing to express our thankfulness for these blessings? You could also discuss how your

family is following the counsel to receive ‘all things with thankfulness’ (D&C 78:19). What does the Lord

promise to those who do?”

• Listen to “Count Your Blessings” while coloring.

• These free Gratitude Journal Prompts for Kids could also be used to write/draw things we’re grateful for.

6. Thankfulness Hundred Fold Activity – D&C 78:19 says, “And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall

be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more.”

• From the manual: “Ask the children to read Doctrine and Covenants 78:19 and find what the Lord

promises to those who are thankful. Help the children understand what “an hundred fold” means,

perhaps by showing a small object and then 100 of that same object.”

• We are going to use the chart on page 10 below to help with this discussion. The chart can be colored in

to show what 100 looks like, put small stickers in the spaces, or place something like chocolate

chips/small marshmallows onto it.

• Testify of God’s love for us and the importance of giving thanks for the good things He gives us.

7. Treat – Read “The Red Cupcake” from The Friend and make cupcakes!

Scripture Hop (D&C 78:17)

Cut apart the following strips and spread them out far enough in a room so that the kids will need to hop from one strip to another. Make sure to keep them in the correct order. Have them stand by the first one and help them say the top line out loud. Explain what it means. Then have them jump to the next one and do the same thing until they’ve jumped on each of them, said them out loud, and discussed them one at a time. Then have them start back at the beginning and practice saying the phrases from this verse in order while hopping from strip to strip again. Try going a little faster each time. Repeat as many times as wanted/needed. These can also be used as flash cards, taped onto the wall to practice throughout the week, etc.

Ye have not as yet

Understood

How great blessings

The father hath

In His own hands

And prepared for you.

Note: The whole verse says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye are little children, and ye have not as yet understood how great blessings the Father hath in his own hands and prepared for you.”

Be

Of good cheer,

For I

Will lead

You along.

Note: The whole verse says, “And ye cannot bear all things now; nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours.”

Discuss ways you could help the people in the following situations. What items could you share with each to

help them? Role-play ways to help for each situation.

Someone hurt their knee while playing outside.

You see a kid outside without a coat. He looks cold.

A boy at school doesn’t have any food in his lunchbox. He looks hungry.

The Share Chair Game –Play this game to help kids get lots of practice sharing different kinds of things. Make a circle of chairs with just enough for one chair per person. Tape the “Share Chair” label onto one of the chairs. Play a song, such as “Give, Said the Little Stream,” while everyone walks in a circle around the chairs. Pause the music at random times and have everyone sit in the chair that is closest to them. Whoever is in the “Share Chair” will get to share something with everyone else. You can either let them find something to share or have them pick from the cards of things that can be shared. Make sure to have items ready for the kids to share if using the cards (some kind of snack, treats, toys, papers to draw on, etc.). Keep all of the chairs in the circle and repeat as many times as wanted. Remind everyone else to say “Thanks” when something is shared with

them. Things That can Be Shared: Cut these cards apart. Place them in a bag/bowl. Whoever ends up on the “Share Chair” will pull a card out without looking, then share whatever they got. If using these, have items prepared that could be shared for the candy, toys, snack, picture, and story.
