Yuba College professor of psychology, Dr. Meridith Sel-
den, was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Academic Sen-
ate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC). The
highly competitive grant award (only 37 of 139 grant pro-
posals were funded) is for the development of open-
educational resources (OER) for Psychological Statis-
tics. In addition to this honor, future Yuba College stu-
dents will save significant money on textbook costs for
this popular course.
Yuba College is in the news with two great articles pub-
lished in the fabricator.com.

Dr. Carla Tweed participated in this year’s Law
Enforcement Torch Run, kicking off the No.
California Special Olympics. Close to 97,000
police professionals in over 45 countries par-
ticipate in this worldwide effort to raise money
and awareness for Special Olympics.
As Yuba College and local public schools broaden their collabora-
tion in providing courses for
dual enrollment, concurrent en-
rollment, and Early College High
School, it becomes more critical
to also provide easier modes of
transportation. This new Yuba
Sutter Transit bus stop at the
Sutter County Center expands
access to education opportuni-
ties to students and reduces
pressure on working parents for
shuttling their children to the
college sites.
The shuttle service, appropri-
ately named “Yuba College
Shuttle” will run every 30
minutes and is FREE to ride be-
ginning January, 2020.
During June, 2019, Yuba College welcomed local students to campus as
part of the STEM Girls Con-
ference. This conference was
led by Yuba College Dean of
STEM and Alumnus Dr. Mi-
chael Bagley, With support
from Outreach Specialist, In-
derjit Deol, students learned
about many fields of educa-
tion, including Culinary Arts
as presented by Roy Hansen.
Yuba College Women’s Soccer
Team teamed up with Mountain
Mike’s Pizza on June 20 for a
fundraiser to support this year’s
summer youth camps and up-
coming intercollegiate season.
The team is led by coach Cristi-
na Baggio, and she thanks every-
one who attended the fundrais-
er and encourages all to come
out and watch a game this year.
