February not only do we celebrate valentines, February is also National Heart Month, and the American Heart Association focuses on women and heart disease. Wear Red Day (the first Friday in February) is designated to increase awareness of cardiovascular diseases that claim the lives of nearly 500,000 women each year. Obesity, heavy drinking, tobacco use, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease, physical inactivity, stress and high cholesterol levels can all contribute to heart disease. Fortunately, making healthful lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, cutting dietary saturated fat and cholesterol, eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, staying physically active, and losing excess weight can resolve many of these issues and help to control or prevent heart disease. Results of a recent study of the effects of walking on heart disease in older men show that walking 1.5 miles a day cuts the risk of developing coronary heart disease in half, compared to men who walk less than a quarter mile. Upping your daily stroll, even if you spread it over two or three outings through the day, will help your heart. Belmont Village encourages residents to take advantage of the wellness programs, on-site fitness centers, and delicious array of heart-healthy meals offered at each of our communities. Cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, are our nation’s No. 1 killer. In an effort to educate Americans about the risk factors of these diseases and how to avoid them, congress has required every president since 1963 to proclaim February “American Heart Month.” To learn more about heart disease and the American Heart Association, visit www.americanheart.org. Are YOU an AQUARIAN?!(01/20–02/19)

Aquarius is one of the three AIRsigns along with Gemini and

Libra. Aquarians possess strongand attractive personalities andthey usually fall into two types:one shy, sensitive, gentle and

patient; the other very colorful, joyful, the life of the party, yet at

the same time hiding considerabledepths of their character under a

frivolous appearance.

Don’t let them fool you, becausethey are mentally documenting

and processing everything aroundthem, and the Aquarius usuallybeing extroverts, has no troubleattracting very much important

data to help them carry out theirmission. No worries, because theAquarians exist for others and are

very satisfied when theycontribute to the progress and

happiness of those around them.

On the flipside the Aquarius havetheir own definition of what is

“right,” for them “right” might notbe what others think, so this is

where their stubborn, abrupt andself-assertive traits appear. Thissign is symbolized by the Water

Pourer, which denotes theblessings and relief the Aquarian

pours out upon mankind.

A BIG shout-out to Catherine “Rene”for she is turning 103 years old thismonth!!! Happy Birthday!! You lookFANTASTIC!!
