INVITATION

2020kenya-igc-irc.rangelandcongress.org

The organizing committee of the Joint XXIV International Grassland and XIInternational Rangeland Congress invites you to be part of the world’s largest and most significant international grassland/rangeland Congress (covering various aspects

including grass and range ecology, forage production and utilization, tourism and wildlife, climate change, pastoralism, gender and youth). The Joint Congress will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya from 24th to 30th October 2020. It will bring together many people (scientists, policy makers, extension workers, farmers, pastoralists, ranchers, academia, students, civil society, conservationists, etc.) with various interests in rangelands and grasslands from all corners of the globe.

This will be the first time the Joint IGC-IRC is held in Africa. It will therefore provide a rare opportunity to showcase the unique tropical savannah grassland and rangeland ecosystems and their mesmerizing wildlife, livestock production systems, culture, Research & Development and management techniques to an international audience.

The overall theme of the Congress is ‘Sustainable use of rangelands/grasslands resources for improved livelihoods’. The program will explore the current issues facing rangelands and grasslands around the world, and share the latest industry developments and solutions.

The program will be innovative, stimulating, and thought provoking with a strong emphasis on gender and youth, recognizing the need to empower and motivate a new generation of forage and range science professionals. There will also be excellent networking and interactive learning opportunities for researchers, extension workers, leading livestock producers and farmers, agribusiness professionals, policy-makers and all those who have a specific focus on rangelands and grasslands including crop-livestock production systems. The outstanding program, strong history of the Congress, vigorous promotion, and attraction of Kenya as a destination venue will ensure the IGC-IRC Congress is a popular and a must-attend event for anyone with an interest in rangelands and grasslands.Approximately 1,500 delegates are expected to attend the Congress from around the world, including large delegations from Asia, America, Europe, Australia and Africa.

We invite you to support vital rangeland and grassland industries through the opportunities included included in this sponsorship and exhibition prospectus. These opportunities have been designed to cater for all grassland and rangeland interests, objectives and budgets to enable all interested organizations to be part of this significant Congress.

Early confirmation of your participation will ensure an even higher level of pre-event exposure. As a sponsor of the IGC-IRC, your company name or logo will be included in the extensive promotional campaign implemented in the lead-up to the Congress worldwide.

On behalf of the IGC-IRC 2020 Organizing Committee, I extend to you a warm welcome and I look forward to the possibility of having your organization aligned with this world class international Congress in October 2020.

Grasslands cover a very large portion of the earth’s surface and are important as a feed source for livestock, as a habitat for wildlife, environmental protection, carbon sink and for in situ conservation of plant genetic resources. In developed

and developing countries, many millions of livestock farmers, ranchers and pastoralists depend on grasslands and conserved products such as hay and silage and on a range of fodder crops for their livelihoods. Grasslands also contribute significantly to cropping systems, with a large part of crop yields being dependent upon the benefits of the pas-tures and herbaceous legumes. Rapid increases in human and livestock populations have contributed to increased pressure on the world’s grasslands and rangelands, particularly in arid and semi-arid environments. Now more than ever, information is needed on the status of the world’s grasslands and rangelands.

The International Grassland Congress promotes interchange of information on all aspects of natural and cultivated grasslands and forage crops for the benefit of mankind, including sustained development, food production and the maintenance of biodiversity. It is the major international forum for scientists involved in grassland and livestock R&D and for people managing one of the world’s largest natural resources.

Rangelands, primarily covered by natural vegetation, provide grazing and forage for livestock and wildlife. Rangeland and grassland ecosystems provide benefits vital to agriculture and the environment including: grazing and forage for livestock and wildlife; watersheds for rural and urban uses; habitat for plants, insects, and animals; water for sustainable landscapes; areas for recreation activities; and potential renewable energy and mineral resources.

The aim of the Joint International Grasslands and Rangelands Congress is to promote the interchange of scientific and technical information on all aspects of grasslands and rangelands including research, planning, development, management, extension, education and training. The Congresses are usually held every 4-5 years for the purpose of presenting papers and reports, organizing symposia and conducting pre- and post-Congress tours. The Joint International Grasslands and Rangelands will be held in 2020 from 24th to 30th October in Nairobi, Kenya.
