JanuaryCare Fair Health & Wellness Event This event is great opportunity for new military families to learn about health and wellness services available in the local community. Vendors such as chiropractors, massage therapists, aestheticians and acupuncture and holistic health practitioners provide a day of pampering and information exchange for attendees. Complimentary snacks and refreshments are provided. Estimated Attendance: ca. 800-1000.

FebruarySuper Bowl Parties Service Members and families can cheer on their favorite team at one of our lively clubs, such as Heroes Sports Lounge that broadcasts the big game on nine 42-inch hi-definition plasma TVs. Participants can enjoy a hero sandwich buffet at half-time. Attendance: ca. 300.

MarchMcChord Field Brew Fest This annual tradition offers beer enthusiasts the chance to sample local microbrews and lively libations created by the winners of the JBLM home brewing contest. The contest is in accordance with guidelines set forth by the American Home Brewers Association and the Beer Judge Certification program. Complimentary snacks are provided. Attendance: ca. 100-150.

St. Patrick’s Day Fun RunThis 5K & 10K Fun Run is open to participants age 6 and up. This is the first road race of the year and will bring out the runners after four months of Northwest hibernation. Free T-shirts are given to all registrants. Medals will be awarded to runners finishing first through third in each age category. Attendance: ca. 200.

AprilParent University Parent University is a one-day workshop designed to help parents excel, despite the stressors of military life. This event is part of JBLM’s National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Month of the Military Child observances.

Easter DashThe weekend before Easter, families are invited to hunt for eggs at Memorial Stadium. The family egg hunt is conducted in four brackets broken down by age group. Once the whistle is blown, that particular age group storms the field, basket in hand, to collect as many plastic eggs as possible. Once all the eggs have been found, each child redeems the respective prizes. The day also features a sack race, an egg-and-spoon race, as well as a photo opportunity with the Easter bunny. For families far from home, it often replaces the traditional family Easter egg hunt. Sponsorship funds prizes. Attendance: ca. 3000.

Kids’ Fest In celebration of the Month of the Military Child, JBLM hosts Kids’ Fest during Clover Park School District’s Spring Break. Each year a new theme is selected, such as “Amazing Animals,” which featured a variety of entertainment including two performing pigs, who “hammed” it up in front a receptive audience. The event focuses on hands-on, educational and fun activities for children and special on-stage entertainment. Attendance: ca. 5000.

Family Airfield 4.3 ChallengeThis is a free Family-friendly fun run/walk that begins at Soldier’s Field House and circles the Gray Army Airfield totaling 4.3 miles. Attendance: ca. 200.

Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon and Awards Ceremony JBLM depends on a large number of volunteers who give up their weekends and evenings to make sure Service Member and family programs run smoothly. JBLM honors and celebrates these dedicated volunteers with a special activity each day during National Volunteer Week such as a cake reception and an appreciation and awards luncheon. Attendance: ca. 200.

MayMurder Mystery Dinner / DessertsThe Murder Mystery Dinner plays out like a live game of Clue. Attendees will enjoy a meal or dessert, while participating in the show at one of our lively MWR clubs. Attendance: ca. 200 to 250.

Children’s Book WeekThe mission of Children’s Book Week is to promote early literacy by introducing young minds to books, authors, illustrators and ideas. Sponsorship opportunities include: certificates and small gifts, books, book bags and or author visits. Attendance ca. 300 and 400 children, 12 and younger.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day This event pays tribute to the unsung heroes of JBLM – the thousands of spouses who support their Soldiers and Airmen every day. Held at the AAFES PX food court, attendees enjoy a complimentary breakfast, gift baskets and door prizes. Attendance: ca. 500.

Northwest Adventure Center Open HouseThis exciting event for outdoor lovers, adventurers and sport enthusiasts includes tours of the log cabins, fishing in the trout pond, climbing the rock wall, barbecue lunches, and much more. Sponsorship opportunities include: door prizes and grand prize drawing. Attendance: ca. 250.

High School Prom Makeover PartyMany girls dream of looking absolutely stunning for their high school prom. However, the cost of a dress and professional

beauty services can be a burden for some military families. With the Prom Makeover Party, every girl can feel her best. Sponsorship opportunities include: pedicures, manicures, make-up application, hair-styling, photography, gift bags and refreshments. Attendance: ca. 100

Armed Forces DayThe purpose of Armed Forces Day is to honor Americans serving in the five services - the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard. This festival is one of the largest of its kind in the state, with re-enactors, military equipment displays, stage entertainment and amusements. Sponsorship helps to offset the cost of rides and purchases prizes for competitions held during the event. Armed Forces Day is also open to the public. Attendance: ca. 20-30,000.

Down & Dirty 5K and 8K Mud Runs This family fun run is loaded with lots of muddy obstacles. Be forewarned, you will get downright dirty. Both races are held behind Soldiers Field House on 2nd Division Drive. All race participants will receive a race T-Shirt, and medals will be awarded to first through third place finishers in each category. Door prizes will be awarded from registered participants who attend the race. Attendance: ca. 400.

Bodybuilding Championship The bodybuilding championship is an annual event held at the American Lake Community Center. Men and women can compete in their class for prizes and top honors. The show also includes renown guest posers.Attendance: 250.

JuneFather’s Day Baseball GameThis is an opportunity to thank military dads with a free trip to the ballpark. Sponsorship covers the cost of tickets, food and transportation to the game.

Triple Threat Triathlon (3-day event) All three triathlon races are comprised of a ½ m Swim, 15 m Bike, & 3 m Run. Races start each day at Shoreline Park on JBLM Lewis-North at 9 a.m. There will be a cap of 300 participants per race. All pre-registered participants will receive a race T-shirt, and medallions will be given to first through third place finishers per category. Door prizes will be pre-drawn from registered participants and posted during the race. Special awards will be given to the top overall individuals in the Elite Category who participate in all three triathlon events.

Summer Reading ProgramSince 1975, the JBLM Library System has provided quality programming to encourage children to read during the summer months. The Summer Reading Program, which is the most popular library program, runs June through August. Sponsorship will fund incentives for children who reach or exceed projected reading goals for the summer.

Participation: ca. 1,300 children and 300 parents.

JulyFreedom FestFreedom Fest is the JBLM annual Fourth of July celebration and features the Classy Chassis Car Show, a Mud Run, carnival rides, food vendors, Army Band Concert and an impressive 3-D fireworks set to the 18th Overture. This event is heavily advertised and is open to the public. Attendance: ca. 40-50,000.

July 4th Celebration for Wounded Warriors Following a traumatic deployment experience, crowds, loud noises, and even warm weather can often trigger flashbacks and cause Service Members with post traumatic stress disorder unnecessary anxiety. The Warrior Transition Battalion offers Service Members and their

Families a stress-free environment in which to celebrate Independence Day. Sponsorship will cover the cost of picnic food and beverages along with festive table cloths and decorations. Attendance: ca. 50, primarily single Service Members.

Air Expo / Hangar PartyThe Air Expo is two amazing days for the military to showcase their phenomenal skills in the air. Aerial demonstrations featuring both civilian and military planes, static plane displays to explore and plenty of opportunities to interact with the public! This is the only McChord Field opens its gates to the general public. In 2008, more than 370,000 people made their way to Air Expo!The Hangar Party, the night before Air Expo, is the big bash exclusively for Military ID card holders and their Families, as a way to thank them for their sacrifices. The fun filled festive event features a live band, free food, games, inflatables and giveaways. This is your opportunity to interact directly with Military members and their Families. In 2008, more than 3,000 people attended this fantastic party, and in light of Joint Basing, those numbers are forecast to rise.

AugustSingle Servicemember Day This day offers our Service Members some well-deserved recognition and off-duty fun and relaxation. Festivities include bands, water slides, mechanical bulls, laser tag, a beer garden, bungee basketball and more. Attendance: ca. 200

BOSS Talent Show Winners of this event are invited to audition for the All-Army Soldier Show that tours professionally for one year. The talent show is conducted during the summer months at a high-traffic location. Participants perform in a variety of creative arts, varying from juggling and singing, comedy and dancing, to monologues to duets. The show is attended and supported by the Garrison Commander. Attendance: ca. 800.

Exceptional Family Member Program Camp Many special needs families are compassionately reassigned to JBLM due to the exceptional medical care provided through Madigan Army Medical Center. MWR offers an annual recreation camp with special accommodations that gives these families an opportunity to enjoy the Great Northwest. The camp commences on the shores of American Lake in the rustic cabins of the Northwest Adventure Center Attendance: ca. 200.

Country Fair Country Fair takes place at the beautiful Shoreline Park on American Lake and features the annual Duck Derby, a singing competition, pony rides, raft races, barbeque and more. Sponsorship funds the bounce houses, stage entertainment and prizes. Attendance: ca. 2000.

Motorcycle Show Proud motorcyclists have an opportunity to annually compete for most origi-nal, best in show and many other categories with their bikes. There are six categories in which bikes can be entered including American Classic, Vin-tage, Custom, Sport, and Stock. A bike wash and rubber burn off add to the show aesthetics along with an afternoon ride down highway 101. This event is sure to draw bike owners aplenty along with those merely seeking a beer, barbeque and an opportunity to see the best bikes on JBLM. Attendance ca. 150-300

SeptemberArmy Half-MarathonThis is the only USA Track and Field-certified race held at JBLM. The 13.1 mile race winds through JBLM military training areas. There are 18 different age categories for the race ranging from age 15 to 80+. The race is limited to four hours (16-minute miles), and registration fees apply. All pre-registered participants will receive a race T-shirt. Medals will be presented to the first through third place winners in each age group, and a trophy will be presented to the overall male and female runners. Door prizes will be

given away after the race. Participation: ca. 400, with 65 percent male and 35 percent female. There is an equal split of single Service members and families in attendance.

Washington State Youth Pheasant Hunt The Washington State Youth Pheasant Hunt is a weekend set for youth under the age of 16 to experience and demonstrate individual responsibility of hunting pheasants in the field. The Pheasant Release Program was originated in a cooperative effort by the Washington State Game Department Officials and JBLM in an effort to afford the general hunting public the opportunity to hunt pheasant in Western Washington. Participation: ca. 70 youth, mostly male.

OctoberExtreme Mountain Bike Race This race is conducted with laps that are 5.7Ks in length with obstacles to challenge all riders, beginners to experts. Competitors are divided into three categories: beginner, sport and expert. Beginner complete one lap, Sport completes two and Expert completes three laps. It is 100 percent mountain biking. All registered participants will receive a free race T-shirt, and medallions will be awarded to first through third place participants in each category. The women’s race is open-class, while the men’s race is divided into two categories – ages 16-22 and 23 and above. Participation: ca. 100, mostly male, ranging in age from 14 to 45.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month Training Each year during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, key and essential military personal attend a one-day conference at American

Lake Community Center. This one-of-a-kind event was developed by Army Family Advocacy program in an effort to teach military members how to prevent and intervene in cases of domestic abuse. Sponsorship funds a continental breakfast, water, tea and coffee. Attendance: ca. 300.

Oktoberfest Oktoberfest is celebrated in the new MWR Festival Tent behind Bowl Arena Lanes. The event kicks off with an official keg tapping and opening ceremony hosted by the Garrison Commander, after which, free entertainment to include rock band karaoke, standup comics, and an authentic German Oompah band. The tent will be decorated with German flags and Oktoberfest swag, complete with authentic German beer benches and tables. Attendance ca. 300

Army Family Action Plan Luncheon This annual forum is held at the Stone Education Center and represents a grass-roots effort to improve Army standards of living. Feedback is forwarded to senior Army leadership, DoD and Congress. Since its inception, the AFAP program has resulted in hundreds of improvements Army-wide. Attendance: ca. 150.

Family Fire Prevention DayThe purpose of the event is to educate families about fire prevention in a fun, festive atmosphere. Activities include tours of JBLM

fire engines, a smokehouse, children’s amusements, hands-on displays, giveaways such as 911 magnets and pencils, and refreshments. Proceeds of concession sales go to the Fisher House, which provides a place for families to stay while their loved ones are being cared for at Madigan Army Medical Center. Attendance: ca. 1000.

Theatrical NightmareOn select days during October, over 50 volunteers work together to transform Nelson Recreation Center into a dungeon of maze-like dark corridors featuring terrifying trolls, goblins and witches and more. People from near and far visit the Theatrical Nightmare for their annual dose of Halloween adrenaline. Attendance: ca. 500.

Harvest FestivalThis event, held on a Saturday provides a safe alternative to trick-or-treating with vendors, a bounce house, and a delightful hay bale maze. Parents can relax with hot apple cider and cocoa. Attendance: ca. 2000.

NovemberTurkey Trot This free competition commences at Cowan Stadium and participants may complete in the 10K or 5K run or a 10K inline skate race for a chance to win a Turkey. Participation: ca. 300.

Army Family Week / Family Treasure Hunt JBLM celebrates our Army Families with a special activity each day of Army Family Week such as a cake reception, free Family movie, and more. There is also a Family Treasure Hunt tradition which challenges families to find as many items as they can from a special list. Winners are announced during the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. Sponsorship opportunities include prizes for the first through sixth place families. Participation: 100.

DecemberHoliday Tree Lighting This is an official Holiday ceremony that takes place in front of the Headquarters building. The event culminates with the arrival of Santa Claus. A reception follows

at the Cascade Community Center with cookies, punch and free photos with Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves. Attendance: ca. 1000.

Santa Shuffle & Reindeer Dash This race is held at the Eagles Pride Golf Course and is 10K race for adults and 5K for youth ages 6 through 14. Awards are given for the top three males and females in each age group. Free T-shits are given to the first 100 participants in each race. This free event is open to the public. Sponsorship covers the cost of door prizes, awards and T-shirts. Participation: ca. 200.

Army/Navy Flag Football Every year, one of our lively MWR clubs hosts a watch party for the most famous of military rivalries. Sponsorship opportunities include prizes for the units who have the highest attendance.

Santa Visits Anyone on JBLM can call the BOSS team to order their own special Santa-gram to be delivered by appointment; Santa and company arrive in jovial spirit with stockings in hand. Sponsorship opportunities include stockings distributed by Santa, the costumes and the gas for the “sleigh.” Monies

raised from the Santa Visits fund programs for single servicemembers.

On-goingUFC FightsThese popular Pay-per-View fights are a hit with Service members. Sponsorship covers the cost to show the fights at three locations and would run for each of the 12 fights. Attendance ca. 400, majority male, 18-34.

The Northwest Adventure Center conducts a monthly Sporting Clays fun shoot. A 10-Station shooting course is set up in an adjacent field to the primary skeet range. This activity provides each competitor with a variety of targets and shooting angles in an outdoor environment. Participants walk the course, which is just a short distance from the club house. Sponsorship opportunities include banner advertisements along the course. Participation: 50-100 per month.

Aerobathons/Intramural and League Sports JBLM encourages physical fitness for Service members and their families by promoting a variety of events and sports programs. We offer everything from bowling to volleyball. Opportunities include: your logo on the back of team T-Shirts, space, a table and two chairs at events, a banner displayed on the sport field/gym for the duration of the sponsored event and your logo on marketing materials.

Youth SportsJBLM Youth Sports offers a huge variety of sporting opportunities. Ninety percent of the participants are children of active duty Army men and women; 10 percent are children of airmen or DoD civilians. Sponsorship funds sport uniforms, jerseys and T-shirts. Opportunities include: your logo on the back of all T-Shirts, space, a table and two chairs at each sporting event, a banner displayed on the sport field/gym for the duration of the sponsored event, your logo on Youth Sports marketing materials.

Spouses TripsEach month, the Family Resource Center offers military spouses trips to surrounding locations and attractions for a minimal fee, or in some cases, free of charge. For family members who are new to the area, this

is a fantastic way to get out and meet some new people. Free child care is offered in conjunction with most of these trips, offering parents enduring a deployment, a well-deserved break. Sponsorship funds transportation to and from various locations and off-sets the cost of entrance fees.

Newcomers Welcome BriefMonthly, JBLM newcomers attend an orientation briefing, with the exception of the November / December holiday season, during which the briefings are combined. The briefing begins at 9 a.m. and ends with a luncheon and bus tour at noon. In between speakers, attendees mingle in the lobby area for coffee and snacks and the opportunity to meet with local vendors and organizations to learn more about housing, school districts, employment and other valuable information. They are also given a unique Newcomer’s Passport. If they fill it out and procure a stamp from each vendor, they become eligible for the grand prize drawing at the end of the briefing. Sponsorship opportunities include door prizes and bag stuffers for each attendee. Attendance: ca. 200-450 per event.

Community Flea MarketsWith frequent moves, garage sales are a frequent occurrence on military installations. To minimize the clutter of signs and make things a little easier for military Families to buy and sell used household items, JBLM hosts Community Flea Markets. This is a great opportunity to sponsor door prizes, refreshments or activities for the children. Attendance: ca. 1000 to 2000.

Texas Hold’em TournamentsA cash bar is available during the games and this is a great opportunity for amateurs to get their feet wet or experienced players to test their skill level. Sponsorship covers the cost of prizes for each

Designated Driver VanThe BOSS program aims to offer any service member under the influence of alcohol a safe, no-questions-asked ride home. Sponsorship opportunities include promotional materials (key chains, bottle openers, handbills) to advertise this free program.

Adaptive Outdoor Recreation and Sports Program for Wounded WarriorsThe recreation department for the Warrior Transition Battalion was created in 2008. Since its inception, many connections have been made with outside agencies to make sports, from skiing to scuba diving, accessible to wounded service members. Sponsorship opportunities include meals, hotel accommodations, and adaptive equipment and instruction.

Year-Round Events for Golf EnthusiastsSpring sees the start of golf season on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Our golf program caters to everyone from tots to retirees with a variety of events at different skill level. Among the most popular: The Rainier Cup, the Match Play Championship, the Club Championship and the Pacific Northwest Military Retirees Golf Tournament. Teaching programs such as Link Up 2 Golf (LU2G) or Golf 4 Kids (G4K) inspire others to enjoy the sport.
