Renewed joint application to higher education

• From autumn 2014 onwards there is a single application form for Bachelor's and Master's degree studies conducted in English, Finnish and Swedish as well as studies organized as full-time or part-time studies.

• In the new joint application of Finnish universities and universities of applied sciences, you can choose a maximum of six study options in the order of preference.

Eligibility• You can apply to a Bachelor’s degree programme when you

have completed education that provides eligibility to apply for higher education in the country in question (e.g. upper secondary school)

• If you are not an EU/EEA-citizen and you have completed the qualification outside of Finland, the qualification must be completed by the end of the application period.

• If you are an EU/EEA-citizen, the qualification must be completed so that the copy of the certificate will arrive at the relevant university of applied sciences by 17 July 2015 3:00 pm.

English language proficiency• If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen applying with a

qualification completed outside of Finland you are required to provide proof of your language proficiency by 10 February 2015.

• An upper secondary level certificate or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree completed in English in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand as well as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree completed in English in an EU/EEA country will be accepted as evidence of English language proficiency.

In addition, language proficiency may be demonstrated with:

• Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), level C

• Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), CEFR level C1

• Cambridge IGSCE Certificate level C • Pearson test of English, Academic 51 (valid for two years)• IELTS, academic level 6.0 (valid for two years)• TOEFL 550 paper-based test / TOEFL 79–80 Internet-

based test (valid for two years)• skills level 4 in a National Certificate of Language

Proficiency test in all areas of the English language• a Finnish Advanced International Certificate of Education

Diploma (AICE)

Discretionary admission

Applicants graduating in summer 2015

• If you are a citizen of Canada, China, Vietnam, the United States or one of the European countries* (that is not a member of the EU/EEA) and you have not received your final graduation certificate by the end of the application period, you can still apply to HAMK UAS through discretionary admission. • Please send a document that proves that you will graduate in

summer 2015 to the admission services of HAMK UAS by 10 February 2015. The document can be for example a statement written by your school's principal or a transcript of your records. • The copy of the final graduation certificate needs to be sent by

17 July 2015.

Applicants without a language skills certificate

• If you are not a citizen of an EU/EEA-country but you are a citizen of some other European country*, you are not required to provide a language skills certificate (i.e. IELTS or TOEFL). Your language skills will be evaluated in the entrance examination.

• Send the copies of your certificates to the admission services of HAMK UAS by 10 February 2015 for discretionary admission.

* European countries (that are not members of the EU/EEA): Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaizan, Bela-Russia, Bosnia-Hertsegovina, Georgia, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraina, Vatican

Application practicalities• Apply through the national joint application system at

www.studyinfo.fi between 7 - 27 January 2015 3:00 pm Finnish time.

• You can apply to 1-6 degree programmes in the order of your preference. Consider the order of your preferences carefully as you will be offered a study place based on your order of preference and your admission points.

• If you are not admitted to your first-choice degree programme your points are checked for your second choice etc. If you are e.g. admitted to your second choice degree programme, your application to all degree programmes below that in your order of preference will be cancelled automatically.

• Please notice: You are only allowed to submit one application. If you submit several applications the last application will stay in force.

Attachments to the applicationApplicants applying with non-Finnish qualification must provide the required attachments to the first-choice UAS by 10 February 2015 3.00 pm Finnish time:

• Copy of the secondary school certificate• Copy of an official Finnish, Swedish or English translation

of the certificate (if certificate is not written in one of these languages). The translation must have the authorized translator's signature and stamp.• Proof of applicant's English language skills (if the

applicant is not an EU/EEA-citizen)

Please notice: This does not apply to applicants that are EU/EEA-citizens and are completing their qualification in spring 2015.

Admission criteria Applicants will be selected using the following two methods:

1. Admission on the basis of the total points for school performance (max 60 p) and for the entrance examination (max 40 p).

2. Admission on the basis of the points awarded for the entrance examination (max 100 p).

50 percent of students will be admitted on the basis of the entrance examination only and 50 percent on the basis of the combined points for previous school performance and the entrance examination.

Entrance examinations• All eligible applicants will be invited to the

entrance examinations• Entrance examinations in Finland on 22

April 2015• Entrance examinations outside of Finland

during weeks 15 and 16 in Brazil, China, Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Kenya, Kosovo, Nepal*, Poland , Russia , Turkey and Vietnam.

*Please notice: The entrance examination of Degree Programme in International Business will not be organized in Nepal.

Social Sciences, Business and AdministrationThe entrance examination consists of the following sections (min/max points): • essay (3.00/10.00 p)• multiple-choice questions (2.00/6.00 p)• section measuring mathematical/logical thinking (3.00/8.00 p)• interview/group discussion (4.00/16.00 p)

• The examination includes a compulsory section measuring English language proficiency. Applicants are not given separate points for the language test but the language test is graded on a pass/fail basis.

• Applicant must pass all parts of the examination in order to be able to be selected for admission. If the applicant fails to reach the minimum point level in any of the examination parts, he/she will be disqualified from the entrance examination.

Technology, Communication and Transport• An entrance examination is a written test lasting 4 hours. It

measures study skills and aptitude for technological fields.

• The examination includes a mathematics and chemistry/physics test as well as a logical deduction skills test. All tests will be conducted in English.

• An English language test is compulsory for all applicants and it will be assessed on a scale of pass/fail. Only applicants passing the language test will be considered for admission.

Student selections• The information on admission for studies beginning in

autumn of 2015 will be announced by 1 July 2015 at the latest.

• You will receive a notification of acceptance from the university of applied sciences if you are accepted.

• You can only be admitted to the highest application preference to which you have enough points for admission. When you are offered a study place, your lower application preferences will automatically be cancelled and you cannot anymore be admitted to those.
