One of the largest honors and recognitions to ever come out of

Ocean View Baptist Church was announced in Orlando, Florida, on

Monday evening at the National WMU Convention. Our own Debby

Akerman was elected to be the next president of the National Woman’s

Missionary Union! Succeeding Kaye Miller (2005-2010), Debby is the

22nd president since 1888, and she is the 19th woman to hold the office.

This five-year term will require Debby to travel quite a bit on

behalf of the WMU. That is the reason for her resignation from the post

of WMU Director of our church. I am glad the Apostle Paul expressed a

couple of times that he had great pride in some of the believers at Corinth

(2 Cor. 7:4 and 8:24). That way, I don’t feel so badly about saying that I am

“bustin’ our proud” of Debby. I am sure you join me. She did not politic

for this position, and was completely surprised and humbled when she

was approached several months ago about serving as the next president.

I will recognize Debby and say a bit more about this on Sunday.

Along some other lines, I hope you will take a few minutes to drop

by the church parlor to say good-bye to Sean and Michelle Sima and

their children on Sunday morning, June 27, at 10:00 a.m. This will be their

last Sunday with us before moving to Richmond, Virginia, to pursue a

career in law enforcement. Sean has done a wonderful job and has been

a tremendous asset to our staff and church. We wish them all of God’s

blessings!

Club 180 — A Christian Teen Center: Club 180 is a place for teens to “hang out” with their friends within a safe, Christian environment. Teens can play video games or pool, enjoy snacks while working on their homework, select books from the library to read, work at computers, or participate in Bible studies.

Our mission team wants to take some needed items to Club 180 when we travel to Kentucky in October. Help us collect Paper Towels & Toilet Paper; Paper Plates & Cups; Individ-ual-size Candy Bars; Individual-size Chips; and Canned Drinks. Pick up a “shopping card” from the literature table, and return your contributions to the designated container. Thanks for your support!

My Fellow Christians: I thank you for all the prayers, visits and cards, during my operation and recovery. They are so important, so don’t neglect them! The phone calls, espe-cially, have been a treasure that we rejoice in. Please continue to remem-ber us in the months ahead. — H. L. and Virginia Sanderson

Dear Pastor Cromer, Rev. Huguley, Jo Hopper and members of OVBC: Thank you so much for the love, kindness and friend- ship that my sister, Jessica (Jordan), received from the wonderful people at OVBC. She was finding peace and joy there with you that she had never known before. Her acceptance of God’s love, mercy and forgiveness was a real testimony of her growing relationship with Him. Thank you, also, for the help and support you provided to my other sister, Natalie, as she made difficult decisions in this heart-breaking situation. —May God bless you, Lynette Farnsworth, Tonia Wingard, Bobbie Thorne, Ronnie and Wendy Haygood

Dear Ocean View Friends, Thank you all for your prayers, calls and cards, during and following my recent surgery. I am doing good, but still appreciate your prayers! — Ruther Morris

Beloved Friends at Ocean View, You cannot imagine how much I miss you. Many of my family and friends were able to come to my open house, and of course, many could not. The flowers you sent were beautiful—in fact still are, and re-mind me so much of the joy we shared in Christ at Ocean View! — With love to all, Jean Cooper

Megan DeFeo 817 Silvercrest Drive Myrtle Beach, SC 29579 843-450-2618 Megan is requesting membership upon transfer of her letter from Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina.

To All Our OVBC Friends: Thank you so much for the prayers, cards, visits, phone calls and meals during my several ER visits and hospital stays this past month, with many nose bleeds. Please continue praying for us as I improve and for Clayton as he is scheduled for a 3rd left hip replacement the end of June. — In Christ’s Love, Marge and Clayton Briggs

Kay Bailey and family in the loss of her sister-in-law, Sally Morris, who died on May 30 in Bluefield, WV.

The family of Virginia Anderson, who passed away on May 31 at home in Myrtle Beach. Virginia was 92 years old and a charter member of OVBC since 1964. She was also a long-time SS teacher, as well as a member of our Music Ministry for many years.

Skipper Henderson and the family of Frances Greene, who died on June 6 at GSRMC. She was 86 years old and a long-time OVBC member since 1970.
