First of all, let me remind those who were in the two 9:00 a.m. services that at the 11:05 a.m. service we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Ministry to the Deaf. It was an honor to commemorate the hard work of so many, particularly Margene Todd, who had the vision for the ministry and has been with it through all of the years. I am grateful to this church for consistently commi.ing the finances to undergird this ministry. Lastly, I am grateful for the contributions the deaf make to our worship and to other aspects of our church’s life. It is an honor to journey in faith with you!

Secondly, I have a personal ma.er to share with you. Upon the medical direction of two different doctors (neither of which a.end, nor are members of this congregation), I will begin a medical leave of absence beginning June 4. I will be in and out of town while allowing my body to heal from several physical issues, and part of that time will be spent at a retreat center for those in full-time Christian ministry. During this medical leave I will not respond to emails, phone calls or texts. I am glad this church is blessed to have a wonderful staff that can assist you with your needs, or point you to the right places or people if need be. This staff will know how to reach me should that be absolutely necessary.

I realize that news like this can cause speculation and/or concern, but while I have several physical issues going on, let me assure you that I do not have cancer or anything terminal. I look forward to returning to work sometime later this summer. In the meantime, your prayers would be welcomed.

Helping Hand of MB needs Volunteers to work at the front desk, greeting clients, answering phones, and filling out forms, or at the mail desk, helping clients with the phone and handing out mail, or in the food pantry, preparing food orders for clients, stocking shelves, or picking food from area churches and stores. 3-4 hours weekly, biweekly, or as substitutes. have a Biblical costume and craft materials for him/her on the first night!

Rusty and Dawn Porter and family in the death of his mother, Aleace Porter on April 16th in Florence, SC, after a long illness.

Glenda Fulmer & family in the loss of her sister-in-law, Terry West, who passed away in Dover, NC, on May 1st after a sudden accident. Pray, also, for Terry’s husband, Marion West.

John and Sarah Gallman & family in the loss of John’s grandmother, Teressa Gallman. Teressa was 89 years old and she died on May 5th in Spartanburg, SC.

Kathleen Reynolds & family in the May 9th death of her mother, Annabelle Reynolds. Annabelle lived in Ashland, VA. Kathleen is a former OVBC member who moved to Ashland several years ago to care for her mother.

Virginia Sanderson & family in the loss of her husband, H. L. Sanderson Jr., on May 21st at their home in Myrtle Beach. H. L. was an active member of OVBC since 2004 and a farmer, businessman, and deacon at Dodson Chapel Baptist Church in Duplin County, NC.

Also, either pack a lunch or make arrangements to grab some food somewhere, afterwards. We’re going to have a devotional, fun, and fellowship! Look forward to seeing you there! This Sunday, June 3rd, right after FX (which begins at 10:10) all Kindergarten through 5th graders and their families are invited to the back lot behind the church for a party to celebrate SUMMER! We’ll have hot dogs and fixins’, snow cones, and plenty of food for all FX families. There will be water slides and rides, and even a dunking booth, so don’t forget to bring your bathing suit and a towel! Childcare is provided during all services for babies through 5 year olds. The new system, Xtra, uses the Promiseland Bible story of the day and reinforces it with activities and games using the central theme. In this way, your child will be learning the same ideas about God whether he/she is there for one hour or an extended part of the morning. All of this learning at any hour is interspersed with age-appropriate play, music, and more.
