JOB TITLE: Fitness Assistant REPORTS TO: Fitness Manager RESPONSIBLE FOR: N/A 1. JOB PURPOSE AND MAIN AIMS a) To assist in the provision of a quality service to customers using the gym and to provide specialist fitness expertise to customers as well as undertake customer sales and retention management. 2. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES a) To deliver high quality gym activations, reviews and fitness assessments in accordance with the Active Fitness Service Plan. b) To meet and greet and introduce new customers to the gym as well as carry out tours of the gym facilities. c) To ensure the Health and Safety procedures are observed in the gym and report any risks, serious incidents and injuries to staff or customers to the Fitness Manager or Senior Assistant Manager / Assistant Manager. d) To follow the Normal Operating Procedures and carry out any action as detailed in the Emergency Action Plan. e) To carry out first aid as necessary. f) To carry out inspections of gym equipment and maintenance as required including undertaking cleaning duties in accordance with the specified checklists and cleaning matrix. g) To provide the highest standards of customer care and provide specialist advice and encouragement to customers. h) Undertake administrative duties and use of the gym’s computer management And any other duties commensurate with the grade and falling within the scope of the post, as requested by Management. Duties may change over time and you will be expected to co-operate where such changes are reasonable. 3. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE (SELECTION CRITERIA) Essential Criteria a) Qualified to NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent level of qualification. b) Awareness of current Health & Safety regulations legislation. c) Excellent customer care and verbal communication skills. d) Experience of working in a customer focused environment. e) Ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork. f) Ability to design and implement effective and safe fitness programmes. Desirable Criteria a) Current First Aid Certificate. b) Relevant instructor qualifications. c) Good written communication skills. d) Knowledge of business IT applications (e.g. Word /Excel) e) Significant experience of working in a health and fitness environment. 4. PHYSICAL EFFORT/AND OR STRAIN a) May be required to aid with the setting up of equipment which may involve some manual handling. b) May be required to take deliveries, which may involve some manual handling. 5. SPECIAL NOTES OR CONDITIONS a) The post holder will be required to work on a shift basis, working week days, evenings and weekends. b) The post holder will be required to wear a uniform at all times whilst on duty. c) The post holder may be required to provide cover for colleagues from time to time. d) The post holder will be required to undergo regular training. e) The post holder may be required to work at any of the sites.
