A University acts like a Buena Vista of knowledge along with young
minds traverse in their search for ultimate truths. It is a huge reservoir of
intellectual energy that contains the potential to foster momentous changes in
the form and substance of human civilization and its evolution.
One of the greatest visionaries and philosophers of our times who
shaped modern India had recommended the establishment of a federal
University at Jabalpur in 1956. This vision was brought to fruition on the 9th
of February 1959 when Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalya (formerly
University of Jabalpur) came into existence.
The establishment of the University was a sequel to a long and
illustrious tradition of traditional as well as modern wisdom starting from
Jaabaali ‘Rishi to great modern philosophers and litterateurs like Acharya
Rajneesh “Osho’.
Shrimati Subhadra Kumari Chauhan, Maharshi Mahesh Yogi, Shri
Han Shankar Parsai, Dr. Rameshwar Shukla ‘Anchal’ and Shri Panna Lal
Shrivastava ‘Noor’ with such a lineage for its academic backdrop. The
University in its current incarnation attracts talent from all over Central
India. The National Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded the University
B” rating in 2002 - the highest in the region.
The University caters to a very large catchment area spread across
several districts of Madhya Pradesh with a population of 1 crore
approximately Nestling in bosom of lush green Sita Pahadi, the University
has one of the finest educational institution in the state. In such a beautiful
setting, both teachers and students like to spend most of their time letting
their creative ventures prosper.
In addition to the University Teaching Departments, the University
comprises of 151 colleges. The Dean, College Development Council
coordinates and monitors the academic activities of the affiliated and

The UGC Academic Staff College (ASC), Rani Durgavati
Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur was established in 1987. Apart from the
host University and its affiliated colleges, the catchment area of ASC
encompasses Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh over and above which
25% of the course participants are invited from the rest of India. The
ASC has become an effective and efficient teaching and Learning
instrument, promoting excellence in the field of academics.
The ASC has been awarded Grade A by the UGC and is ranked
as one of the top Academic Staff Colleges of the country. Till date, the
ASC has conducted more than 350 full-fledged orientation/ refresher
programmes in which 10,000 teachers have been trained. Apart from
the regular courses, the ASC has conducted several short term/summer
courses to cater to the needs of teachers from sub-altern areas. The ASC
also organizes prominent administrative facilitator programmes such as
Principals meet and Directors meet regularly.

1,80,000 books, over 8,000 bound volumes of research abstracts and
journals, and hard copies of over 4,000 research degree theses awarded
by the University. The University library system has been computerized
since 1997 and has a database of about 30,000 books, 10,000 journals
and 4,000 theses, all hooked up with the INFLIBNET. LAN connects
all sections of the library. The Library maintains Internet access.
Besides the Central Library, each teaching department has a separate
library, equipped with textbooks, supplementary reading materials,
including journals and encyclopedia on the concerned subject with
photocopying facility. There are specific libraries as well as reading
rooms for students in the departments.

Envisaging need for automation and e-governance due to the
enormous workload and increasing activities, University has initiated
move to automate office working and provide e-governance to students
and colleges. Comprehensive office automation through single software
with common database provides integration of central store, affiliation,
degree, account, HR, academics, central evaluation and examination
departments. Office automation has also helped to create a systematized
working with availability of online information. Budgetary working and
advances monitoring with system generated receipts and cheques have
helped augment accounts efficiency.
Database of Ph.D. students helps to track thesis progress and its
timely evaluation. Automation has provided a comprehensive data-base
of affiliated colleges. The examination module has helped to automate
the entire examination work right from admit card printing to result
declaration. Computerized servicing window has provided faster
redressal of students queries. The university has its presence in the
cyber world with its website providing University and colleges profile,
examination scheme, student results, etc.

The University has a fully functional Placement Cell that has
evolved strategic Linkages with market and industry. The basic
mandate of this cell is to train students according to the requirements of
market and industry and to ensure proper and judicious placement of
students passing out from the various University Teaching

disbursement of information relating to employment opportunities and
scope for higher studies both within the country and abroad.

The University Health Centre is located within the campus under
the overall superintendence and direction of a fully qualified full time
doctor. The Centre has an indoor patients ward with five beds. There is
a mini operation theatre having an X-ray machine as well. A
homeopathic doctor also visits the centre twice a week. There is regular
disbursement of medicines to all University employees and students
from the Health Centre.

Remedial classes for SC/ST students are organized at the
Department of Political Science. Special care is taken for enhancing the
intake and retention capabilities of the students, especially in areas
where they feel handicapped.
Classes are organized so as to train them to compete at the
UGC NET examination, as well as prepare them for National and State
level civil services examinations. Around 82 registrations from SC/ST
students were made in this year and regular classes were ensured for
their academic upliftment.

The Women Study and Research Centre in the University has
been functioning for the last three decades. It has succeeded in playing
an interventionist role by initiating gender perspective in several areas.
The University Grants Commission has taken a broad view of the
women studies constituency by supporting university women studies
centres and facilitating them to network with constituents involved in
similar work.
The primary role of the centre is knowledge assimilation and
transmission through teaching, research, field action and
documentation. It is fulfilling several related and complimentary roles
for the academic community as well as for activity, policy makers and
policy implementers. More specifically the Centre at R.D. University is
running certificate courses, research projects, extension activities and
advocacy programmes.

The University Institute of Computer Science and Application
(UICSA), Rani Durgawati University, Jabalpur is an autonomous institute
within the jurisdiction of R.D. University. The institute came into existence
in the year 1993 by a resolution of the Executive Council of the University,
when the University Grants Commission, New Delhi accepted the proposal
of our University and sanctioned the initial establishment cost. Later in the
year 1997, a M.C.A. programme was also approved by All India Council of
Technical Education. Ever since the inception of this institute, emphasis has
been given to quality of education and practical training of students to cater
to the needs of the fast developing IT industry. It boasts of an impressive
guest faculty including those from prestigious institutes like NT’s, REC’s
and several universities like JNU, Delhi, Pune, B.H.U., etc. It organizes
lively interaction with dozens of industries. The pattern of study includes
lectures, practicals, projects, case studies and workshops, which help the
students to grasp the theoretical as well as practical aspects of the application
of computer education in the business/industrial world.

The Dean Students’ Welfare is in charge of all extra curricular
activities of students. The Office of the Dean helps students (including
foreign students) regarding housing, employment guidance, welfare
activities, scholarship, cultural activities and general assistance in
administrative matters. It has been regularly organizing Youth Festivals
and other related cultural activities like concerts by SPICMACAY
promoting Indian Art Forms.
The welfare of foreign students also comes under its purview.
There is a large contingent of foreign students specialty from African
countries who take admission in the University and its various affiliated
colleges. Their special needs are taken care of by the Dean Students’
Welfare.

Department of P.G. Studies And Research In Biological Science
M.Sc. Biotechnology (2 years, 4 semesters course)
M.Sc. Biotechnology is a four semesters self-financed course of
two years duration. India has already emerged as a major contributor in
the Biotech sector with about 450 companies and a turnover of Rs.
11,000 crore growing at a rate of 50% p.a. Biopharma, Bioservice, and
Bioagric are the major players, white Bioinformatics is expanding very
fast. About 195 companies have trained 700 odd PG students in 2008-
09, and 30% were absorbed in same companies. In M. R, Biotech
sectors are located around Indore and Bhopal, which offer Lucrative
jobs for PG Biotech students.
The M.Sc. Biotechnology is a two years course spread over four
semesters, comprising four papers in each semester. The fourth
semester is exclusively dissertation in lieu of four papers. The courses
are being taught by specialized and qualified faculty who also provide
skilled practical training to the M.Sc. students. The department has
instruments like UV-Vis spectrophotometers, PCRs, HPLCs, Cooling
Centrifuges etc. Further, it has a good Library with more than 3,500
books. It is connected with a high speed Internet having access to
online journals through Springer- Verlag database.
B.Sc. (Hons) Microbiology, B.Sc. (Hons) Biotechnology (3
years 6 sem. course), B.Sc. in any branch of Life science with minimum
50% marks with reservation for ST/SC! OBC as per M.P. Govt, rules.
Placement Opportunities: The passed out students have been absorbed
in Biocon Ahmedabad, Cipla Mumbai, Reliance Life Sciences New
Delhi apart from many Govt, and private institutions of repute. There is
tremendous scope of jobs in Pharma, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatic
services and Pathology labs.
Linkages with Leading Institutes: As a part of the dissertation
work a Large number of M.Sc. students visit institutes Like NEERI
Nagpur, NCL, NCCS Pune, CIMAP Lucknow, Cancer Research
Institute Mumbai, Cadila Pharma Ahmedabad, NIPGR New Delhi, etc.,

Department of Economics (2 years, 4 sem.) MBA (International.
Business, Business Economics): This is 2 years (4 Semesters) full time
programme. This unique program is successfully catering to all the
corporate requirements of International Business for the past many
years. The previous batches have secured full placement in
Multinationals and Indian Companies. The Programme believes in the
philosophy of Learning by practice. Management games are conducted
to improve the basic managerial skills of the students. The department
is known for its academic excellence and commitment towards the
promotion of global entrepreneurship. The department prides itself on
its academic initiatives, excellence and synergy with reputed industrial
houses.
Linkages with Industries: The course of International Business is
quite useful in the era of globalization. The firms engaged in
international business find the students quite useful for their business
operations.
Eligibility: Graduation in any branch with at least 50% marks.
Reservation is provided as per the Government of Madhya Pradesh and
University rules.
Placement Opportunities: A Placement Cell organizes regular
summer training and final placements in second & fourth semester,
respectively. Students have been offered high packages by the various
Companies Like TCS, ITC, RELIANCE MONEY, etc. Pre placement

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication was
established at Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur in 1983 as a Centre
for Advance Media Study in Journalism and Mass Communication. The
Department has its own spacious Laboratories, Press Conference hall,
Electronics Media Production Studio, Photo Lab, Computer Lab with
Internet connectivity. The department is equipped with all modern
Audio-Visual equipments to provide practical training to the students.
After successful completion of the course, the students are
placed in media industry such as Newspapers, Radio, Television, News
Agencies, Public Relation, Film Journalism, Photo Journalism,
Advertising Industry and other such related origination. Most of the
graduates are absorbed by Government of India and State Government
in public relations and information sector. There is a huge scope of

The establishment of the Department marked a watershed event
in the anals of legal education in the state. Apart from the main Line
courses of B.A. LL.B. (Hons), LL.M and Diploma, the department has
fully qualified faculty for research guidance. The department conducts

B.A. LL. B. (Hons)- is an integrated 5 year course split into 10
semesters, each of 6 months duration.
Eligibility: Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2)
system or an equivalent examination with 50% marks. The relaxation to
reserved category is given as per rules. Selection is based on merit,
assessed through admission test conducted by Rani Durgavati
Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur. Age limit: 22 years (as on 1St of July of the
corresponding year). 50 seats are reserved for normal merit candidates,
05 seats for NRI candidates and there are 05 payment seats.
The Objective and Job Opportunities: This course facilitates
and encourages students to become deserving Advocates, Judges,
Prosecution Officers, Legislators, Law Teachers and Jurists. Placements
is also in the Corporate Sector.
LL.M. (2 years, 4 Semesters) Total seats : 40 (30 Seats merit
including reserved seats), 2 payment seats and 8 seats under self finance
scheme. It is a two years full time course spread up into four semesters
each year having two semesters of six months duration.

Prof. Narendra Singh Lecture Series are regularly held in the
department. Recently seminar was organized on "Changing dimension
of human rights".

The University Department of Physical Education was
established in 1969 with the objective (I) to manage University sports
and (ii) to prepare qualified physical education teachers/leaders. Since
then, the department has been successfully managing sports activities
like (i) organization of inter-collegiate and inter-university
competitions, (ii) training and coaching of university teams in various
games and sports for inter-university and other competitions and (iii)
provide technical and academic assistance to KVS/district education
sports colleges, adjoining universities along with district and state
associations of different games and sports.
Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) No. of Seats-40. It is a
two semesters course covering (i) theoretical courses, (ii) acquisition of
ski[Ls in different games and sports, and (iii) teaching ability. Students
are trained in these areas in order to fulfill the growing requirement in
the field.
Eligibility: Bachelor's Degree with Physical Education as an
elective subject with fifty percent marks; or Bachelor's Degree with
Physical Education as an elective subject with forty-five percent marks
and participation in National or State or Inter-University competitions
in sports or games or athletics recognized by Association of Indian
Universities or Indian Olympic Association; or Bachelor's Degree with
forty-five percent marks and having participated in National or State or
Inter-University Sports or games or athletics; or
Reservations for ST/SC/OBC candidates or candidates belonging
to other categories shall be in accordance with the rules prevailing in
the University from time to time. Eligibility is subject to change as per
the Latest NCTE Norms as applicable for a particular session.
Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.): No. of Seats 25. It is
a four semesters course that provides theoretical and analytical
understanding in fundamental and allied courses of physical education
along with the theoretical and practical aspects of a chosen sports
activity as sports specialization in order to equip them to impart sports
coaching in the chosen sports activity.

Eligibility: (i) A Bachelor degree examination in Physical
Education or a post-graduate diploma of one year duration after
graduation or any equivalent examination recognized by the Academic
Council with a minimum of 50% marks, (ii) The applicant should not
be more than 30 years of age. Five years relaxation in age shall be
given to those departmental candidates, who are working as Physical
Education Teachers/ Sports Officers! Directors of Physical Education
or holding any administrative post in Physical Education/Sports in
educational institutions and other organizations, and are deputed by
their respective Department/Organization, (iii) Eligibility is subject to
change as per the latest NCTE Norms as applicable for a particular
session (iv) In-service candidates have to obtain necessary permission
from the competent authority and have to take two years study leave
from the department to complete the course. No relaxation shall be
given in this case. The certificate has to be submitted before the
entrance examination, (v) Reservations for ST/SC/OBC candidates or
candidates belonging to other categories shall be in accordance with the
rules prevailing in the University from time to time.
M.Phil. Physical Education: it is a two semester pre-doctoral
programme with emphasis on research methodology and different areas
of specialization.
Eligibility: A candidate who has passed the Masters Degree
examination in Physical Education with a minimum of 55% from
general category and 50% of marks, from SC/ST category shall be
allowed to appear at the entrance testing. Those securing 50% marks in
the entrance test shall be eligible for admission.

1. The application form must be accompanied by the following:
a. Photocopy of marksheet /Certificate ass X as proof of date of birth.
b. Photocopy of marksheet of class XII, Graduate or Post-graduate
examinations.
c. Photocopy of the certificate in case of reserved category candidates
as per Govt, rules.
d. Medical Fitness Certificate for those appearing in B.P.Ed., M.P.Ed,
and M.Phil. Physical

e. One self addressed envelope (4.0x9.0 inches) affixing stamp of Rs.
5/- only.
2. All candidates will be provisionally allowed to appear in the
Entrance Test. For a appearing at entrance test candidates must
themselves ascertain their eligibility.
3. Roll Numbers will be allotted by the respective departments.
4. The candidates will not be allowed to enter the examination hall if
they do not have the admission card. The admission card will be
issued by respective departments.
5. The entrance test will be held on 15th for LL.B. (3year) course and
on 22nd June, 2013 for all other courses. The time will be between
10.00 am and 12.00 noon, at the notified centers.
Venue will be – (1) Centre for Law at Jabalpur (B.A.LL.B., LL.B.
& LL.M.), and other courses offered through entrance examination
by the various departments of the University at UTDs Jabalpur.
(2) Other Centres outside Jabalpur for Law – the centres notified
by the university within the catchment area for LL.B course.
(3) the Entrance test for Ph.D. Programme will be held on 15th
July, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at UTDs of respective subjects.
(4) The Entrance test for M.Phil. Programme is likely to be held in
August, 2013.

Anti Ragging MeasuresAnti Ragging MeasuresAnti Ragging MeasuresAnti Ragging Measures The University has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY towards ragging.
1. In this University ragging is totally banned. /
2. Any student found to be engaging in the act of ragging can be
punished as per statute 40.
3. At the time of admission in the department, all students through
their parents have to submit compulsory affidavit not to involve in
ragging.
4. It is compulsory to submit affidavits of the same nature alongwith
the admission form while seeking admission in the hostel.
5. All new entrants, if ragged by senior students in any way, will
immediately inform the competent authority of the University.
6. The following things are included in ragging: To compel a student
for collective drill. To compel a student to prepare notes for senior
students in class.
To traumatize a student physically or mentally.
To force a student to eat or drink something.
To indulge in cruelty with any student so as to risk causing death.
To indulge in absurd acts that may destroy the innocence of a
student
To force a student to do foolish acts.
The complaints of any such event should immediately be lodged
with the head of the concerning department or Proctor of the
University by any Student, Teacher, Employee, Guardian or
Citizen.
The competent authority after investigating the case may punish the
concerned student in the following manners:
a. Expulsion for one/two years from the college or department.
b. Ban on admission for two years in any College or University of the
state.
If ragging is done by any former student or by any outsider, they
shall be handed over.
