The Jim Riemer Classic Each year since the first MCITTA Gathering in Las Vegas in 2003, we have attempted to hold a golf tournament for the diehard golf addicts of the Association. Additionally, we have invited and encouraged all members to participate in this activity to promote camaraderie and have a fun event. Our efforts have had mixed results. Most years we have been able to hold an informal golf “tournament” with a few, usually about four or five, members and although not formalized, it has been fun. This year we are instituting a new approach in order to include all Gathering participants into a day of fun activities we can enjoy and have fun together. We have designated this day of outdoor fun activities as The Jim Riemer Classic. Why Jim Riemer you might ask? Jim is a founding member of the MCITTA and a faithful contributor of time and effort in promoting our organization. He has been a longtime aficionado of this intricate and challenging game, and despite some sever physical setbacks, has, with great grit and determination, elevated his level of play to the envy of us all. At the first MCITTA Gathering at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Jim struck a hole in one, a significant achievement for anyone, let alone a man with a cane. As if on cue, as the ball rolled into the cup, the U. S. Air Force flight demonstration team, The Thunderbirds, took off in their “V” formation and flew directly over the course as if in acknowledgement and recognition of this rare accomplishment. Thus, we believe it is only fitting we name this event for him. We hope this event bearing Jim's name will stand for many years as a fitting tribute to the man, and a highlight for our Annual Gathering. Everyone is invited to participate on the golf course, whether you are a golfer or not. For those who are not golf aficionados there will be other varied events for fun and enjoyment for all. You don't have to be a PGA level golfer, just have a desire to spend a fun-filled day with good friends. The Jim Riemer Classic will consist of two parts, a Golf Tournament consisting of a 9-Hole contest beginning in the morning and completed by noon of “tournament day,” followed by lunch and The Jim Riemer Mini Classic which will include a Putt-Putt Tournament as the main event, with other competitive events as available. All Gathering attendees are highly encouraged to participate in the 9- Hole Golf Tournament. Skill level is not a factor— camaraderie and a good time is. The Mini Classic is our opportunity to enjoy an activity to include all our members. No skill required. All attendees are cordially invited to participate in this event. A scoring system will be devised to award trophies and prizes during the informal Jim Riemer Classic Awards Supper in the evening. 9-HOLE GOLF TOURNAMENT Bingo-Bango-Bongo Format Bingo Bango Bongo is a points-based game that can be played by any number of players, from two up and is recommended for the 9-Hole Jim Riemer Classic Golf Tournament. In Bingo-Bango-Bongo, three types of achievements are rewarded with a point. The first player to get his ball on the green gets one (1) point (Bingo). The player in the group whose ball is closest to the pin once all balls are on the green gets one (1) point (Bango), and the player in the group who is first to hole out gets one (1) point (Bongo). Conceivably, one player could earn all three points for the hole. Bingo-Bango-Bongo gives weaker players a chance to earn points because what matters is being first at something. For example, the player who hit the worst drive (farthest from the hole) plays first, and so has the first shot at winning the Bingo point. So, too, with closest to the pin. The closest-to-the-pin point is only earned once all balls are on the green, so the player who has hacked it up the fairway may be sitting just off the green and chipping— giving that player a great chance to pick up the Bango point. Because of these factors (and because the first person putting will be the one farthest from the hole), strict etiquette must be enforced. The player who is away always plays first. Individual players shall maintain their own stroke score on the honor system. Additionally, the individual shall keep the Bingo-Bango-Bongo points in a separate column as they are earned. At the end

9-HOLE GOLF TOURNAMENT Bingo-Bango-Bongo Format

Bingo Bango Bongo is a points-based game that can be played by any number of players, from two up and is recommended for the 9-Hole Jim Riemer Classic Golf Tournament.

At the end

Page 2: Jim Riemer Classic Outline 23Apr09mcitta.org/pdf/ClassicPack.pdf · Bingo-Bango-Bongo Format Bingo Bango Bongo is a points-based game that can be played by any number of players,

of play, stroke scores shall be totaled for the 9-Holes and the total Bingo-Bango-Bongo points subtracted from the gross score. The resulting lowest net score shall be declared the winner.

In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined in a putting contest on the course putting green. The ball will be placed 30 feet from a selected putting cup and members will alternate putts until the ball is holed. The individual with lowest number of putts will be declared the winner. If the number of putts is tied, the putting contest will be repeated until a winner is determined.

18-HOLE GOLF TOURNAMENT Scotch Foursome Format

The Scotch Foursome is recommended as the competition format for the Jim Riemer Classic Golf Tournament is played as an 18-Hole tournament. Selected 2-person teams will play as a foursome group. The same ball will be played by each team throughout the round of golf, alternating shots: The first player tees off, the second player hits the second shot from its unimproved lie, the first player hits the third shot, and so on until the ball is holed. (A lie may be improved according to the course regulations of the season; i.e., if “winter rules” of clean and place are allowed by the course, this rule shall be applicable during the Jim Riemer Classic round.)

Regardless of which player holes the ball, the rotation of alternating tee shots will prevail on succeeding holes; i.e., Player A tees-off on Hole #1; subsequently, Player B will tee-off on Hole #2 regardless if he holed the last shot on Hole #1.

In this type of alternating shot rotation, Player A will tee-off on five holes while Player B tees-off the alternating four holes. Select your rotation wisely as once defined it is not permitted to change the rotation. If any player hits out of the alternating sequence they shall incur a penalty of two (2) strokes for that hole. If any team does not tee-off with alternating players, they will incur a penalty of three (3) strokes for that hole.

Two 2-man teams will play as a “foursome” with the opposing teams keeping the score card of their opponent in the foursome. The event coordinator will assign each 2-man team from the roster of applicants with emphasis on team balance in consideration of player handicaps to ensure all participants have as equal a chance in the competition.

All standard rules and etiquette of golf shall apply. Penalties for lost or out-of-bounds errant shots shall be applied in accordance with the USGA Rules of Golf.

On the first hole, the sequence of team’s tee-off will be determined by the toss of a coin. Subsequently, the team with the lowest score on the previous hole will have the “honors.” During the course of play, the ball furthest from the hole in play will hit first, keeping in mind the rule of alternating shots.

The lowest score recorded by a 2-man team based on the 18-holes of golf play with each player hitting an alternate shot and alternating tee shots will determine the winner of the Jim Riemer Classic Golf Tournament.

In the event of a tie, the tie-breaking play described above will apply.

"Mulligans" Definition: Most simply put, a Mulligan is a "do-over." Hit a bad shot? Take a mulligan and hit it

again. Mulligans will be allowed only when playing an 18-Hole tournament and expressly agreed upon by all players in the tournament. If agreed upon by all players, Mulligan Tokens will be for sale at $10 each with no more than two permitted per team and only one per player. Mulligans may be declared after any tee shot with no penalty incurred for the errant shot. It is simply a “do-over.” Any team purchasing Mulligans will not be considered at an advantage over any team that does not purchase a Mulligan.

Mulligan Tokens must be purchased from the event coordinator before the commencement of tournament play. When any team declares a Mulligan, they will surrender one token to the opposing team in the foursome. These tokens will be turned into the event coordinator at the end of play.

All proceeds from the sale of Mulligans shall go to the MCITTA Monument Fund.
