We soon find out he is about to kill himself as he brings out a gun and puts it against his head. As he does this, we can see he is shaking which emphasises that he is nervous and may have second thoughts on killing himself. This therefore links to the genre which is a thriller as the shaking of the protagonist adds tension which is common in thrillers. Next, we see a girl walking down the road in front of the car which conveys the idea of happiness as the man pulled the gun away from his face. Additionally, this is accentuated by the weather and high key lighting in the scene as it is bright and sunny which has connotations of happiness. However, when the white van comes and kidnaps the girl, the low key lighting is used to represent a more darker and sinister atmosphere. Mise en Scène

The film starts with a guy in the car dressed in casual clothes (polo shirt) and uses his facial expressions to show his is extremely nervous.

Camera

Several different camera shots are used in the film to create different effects. Moreover, the film starts with the camera at the back of the car looking forward. It then switches the close-up of the guy to shows his expressions more clearly to the audience. This therefore helps shows the audience how the characters are feeling and if they are represented positively or negatively as then the audience can relate themselves to the character more and understand the character more. Additionally, an establishing-shot is used later on to set the scene. This therefore lets the audience know where the character is and what his surroundings are. In this particular scene, we see a house with the white van that took the girl parked there. Furthermore, this tells us that the girl must be in this house.

Editing

The film uses quick transitions to make the scenes flow better and seem more realistic so the audience is more attracted. Furthermore, the transitions mostly switch to a different view of the protagonist where it uses the transition to make the audience presume what has happened. For example, at the start we can see the back of the protagonist and then we switch to a close-up where we see he has pulled a gun which we presume was from his pocket or in his hand as we didn’t see where it came from.

Sound

There is little sound in this short film with a mix of diegetic and non-diegetic music. The protagonist does not actually have any dialogue which makes the audience look into how he is feeling rather then what he is saying. The score gets more tense as the film progresses. As the man gets into the house, the score gets to it’s peak and we then see the girl looking at the man in the house and then the score drops leaving us at a cliff hanger as we don’t know if they will make it out or why the girl was kidnapped.
