Los católicos en los Estados Unidos pasan mucho tiempo hablando de “vocación” y la manera en que cada uno de nosotros discierne nuestra vocación en la vida.
Sin embargo, en la carta apostólica de hoy, Pedro nos da la “piedra angular” de nuestra vocación, lo primero y principal en el llamado de cada uno de nosotros a raíz de nuestro Bautismo. Él describe nuestra vocación como “estirpe elegida, sacerdocio real, nación consagrada a Dios, pueblo de su propiedad para que proclamen las obras maravillosas de aquél [Cristo] quien nos llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable” (1 Pedro 2:9).
Todos nosotros, sin importar la senda por la cual nuestra vocación de vida nos lleve, hemos sido elegidos por Dios, hechos santos, y ungidos como sacerdotes en el alto sacerdocio de Cristo por nuestro Bautismo.
Todo esto, para que podamos anunciar las maravillas de Cristo. Se nos da una vocación para que proclamemos mediante el servicio, la palabra y el sacramento dentro del hogar, en el trabajo y dondequiera que nos lleve la vida.Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Roman Catholics in the United States spend a good deal of time speaking of “vocation” and the manner in which each of us discerns our vocation for life.
In today’s apostolic letter, however, Peter gives us the “cornerstone” of our vocation, the description of what each of us is called to fi rst and foremost by our baptism. He describes our vocation as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of [God’s] own, so that you may announce the praises of Christ, who called us out of darkness into light” (1 Peter 2:9).
All of us, no matter what path our life’s vocation may take us down, have been chosen by God, made holy, and anointed as priests in the high priesthood of Christ through baptism.
All of this, so that we may announce the praises of Christ. Vocation is given for proclamation at home, in the workplace—wherever life takes us—in service, in word, and in sacrament.Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

simple: Pray.
Treasures From Our Tradition If there is such a thing as a Catholic “trade-mark” it is the sign of the cross, fi rst traced on the senses of catechumens as they begin the journey to baptism, or on the forehead of an infant who is brought to the doors of the church at baptism. As early as the third century, Christians were tracing the sign of the cross on their bodies. At fi rst, the cross was traced on the forehead during times of prayer and daily occupations. We use a similar small cross today as we trace the cross over on the fore-head, lips, and heart at the Gospel during Mass. Much later, the full-body sign traced from forehead to heart to shoulders took shape, perhaps copying the priest’s gesture of blessing with the consecrated host during Mass. Today, this superb baptismal gift is a sign of belonging to Christ and the community, a way of focusing our attention, of asking for God’s blessing, of tracing on our shoulders a willingness to fi nd meaning in life’s burdens. Tradiciones de Nuestra Fe El 20 de abril de 1906 los ojos de una imagen de la Dolorosa comenzaron a parpadear durante un lapso de 15 minutos en el colegio jesuita San Ga-briel, en Quito, Ecuador. En 1995 en Cochabamba, Bolivia, una imagen del Divino rostro lagrimó sangre y después, una imagen de la Inmaculada hizo lo mismo. En el transcurso del siglo veinte, muchísimas imágenes de Cristo, María e incluso, el Espíritu San-to, lloraron lágrimas de agua, sangre u óleo, emitieron aroma de rosa o mostraron alguna manifestación paranormal. La ciencia logró explicar algunos de estos fenómenos, pero en muchos casos no fue posible. Normalmente, la jerarquía eclesiástica prefi ere no hacer declaraciones ofi ciales al respecto, por lo menos, no antes de mucho escrutinio. El apóstol san Juan recomienda examinar cada espíritu (1 Juan 4:1-3) y esto es lo que la Iglesia hace con estas manifestaciones sobrenaturales. Con investiga-ciones científi cas, sociales y espirituales se examinan cuidadosamente estas manifestaciones a fi n de ase-gurar que provienen de Dios y no del diablo u otros orígenes.
