Preliminary Notes & IntroductionPreliminary Notes & IntroductionPreliminary Notes & IntroductionPreliminary Notes & Introduction Tshirt Terrorist employs the techniques of humour, political satire and social parody, amongst others, to offer an array of Tshirt designs to challenge the status quo, and to highlight various issues, whether uncomfortable, amusing, or serious in nature, that demand a rethinking by, or at least a fresh angle of observation from, society in general. Some of these designs will mock or mimic many established or recognised forms in both the corporate sphere and the Tshirt fashion industry itself. As such, designs need to incorporate a high degree of original (art)work in order for THIRD WORD and its owners to offer a reasonable defence against any litigation that might arise from the public display of certain of the label's designs. Welcome and enjoy working with Tshirt Terrorist. Unleash your inner Terrorist. Target Everything. Oh, yes. Of course.... Balaclava not incl.

Understanding the Brief & SubmittingUnderstanding the Brief & SubmittingUnderstanding the Brief & SubmittingUnderstanding the Brief & Submitting Artwork Artwork Artwork Artwork This brief offers both a physical description of the idea intended as a Tshirt design, and the concept behind the idea – the overall message or meaning of the Tshirt design. Designers are expected to follow the physical description of the idea as closely as possible, but are also encouraged to use their creative initiative insofar as this will aid the evolution of the idea from its original abstract form into a self-supporting Tshirt design. As such, a designer can veer from the physical description of the brief to some degree, but only where this variation supports the design concept, the message or the meaning of the original idea. Artwork should be submitted in vector format, preferably as a .TIFF or similar file extension. All artwork needs to be submitted at full size, as stipulated on the specifications page, and further, at full resolution, regardless of the file size. This will be known hereinafter as the MASTER COPY. The MASTER COPY is the copy submitted to the printers and Tshirt manufacturers, and other parties involved in the production of the design. For marketing purposes Tshirt Terrorist would also like to receive a down-scaled version of the design. This version can be a JPEG extension, should be significantly smaller in file size, and should feature within the sales border as provided later in this brief which contains the company specific and copyright information. This version will hereinafter be referred to as the SALES COPY.

Design ConceptDesign ConceptDesign ConceptDesign Concept This Tshirt design is a cheesy rip-off of certain cult beliefs that Jesus Christ will return following the final battle of Armageddon in a flying saucer to deliver the 144 000 faithful to a 'heaven beyond the stars'. "Jesus is [UFO] Coming" is a highly opinionated Tshirt, although the main premise of its argument, the focus of its expression, if you like, is not that it contradicts the popular understanding of a major religious principal, but that it does so deliberately, with a humorous undertone. Religion and politics are conversational taboos when in the respectable company of strangers. It comes as no surprise then that Tshirt Terrorist, which offers its wearers the chance of becoming the "terrorist" in social situations, the trendy outsider, will constantly overstep the line. Keeping this in mind, the designer should not allow their personal convictions to influence their work on this idea. The design will consist of two layers. The main font layer containing the original message "Jesus is Coming", and the graphic – the hand-drawn and skillfully designed UFO that creates the corruption; establishes the humour behind the design. The main consideration of the designer should be forming a strong and immediate dynamic between the font and the graphic. The UFO needs, in some creative way, like comic books for Tshirts (and in a single instant) to define the entire 'unidentified' cult-fiction thing. A youthful, unsymmetrical – with uneven, untraced lines, pure-thought art – would serve this design well. Or something completely unexpected. How would you, as a designer, given a framework, and limitation almost, of black line and green fill, represent how every being on this planet imagines, or believes, spaceships to look like?

Note on Physical Design MeasurementsNote on Physical Design MeasurementsNote on Physical Design MeasurementsNote on Physical Design Measurements A Tshirt breastplate design will average between 190mm and 230mm, depending on the specifics of the design, and often on how far down the design extends. The rule for Tshirt Terrorist designs, unless advised to the contrary, is that an inverse proportion exists between the vertical and horizontal dimensions. The less a design extends down the length of the Tshirt, the further it extends across. The font, Fake Plastic, need not be the final word as the chosen font for the design – it merely describes the particular style the design would work best with. An alternative would be Alien League which tends to copy the 'script' of the movie series – quite fitting given the context of the design – although any strong, square, yet slightly straight and thinnish font would compliment this design. The design does not require any specific font effect, but Tshirt Terrorist is always open to suggestion. If the designer has a certain feel for this design, for the font or the graphic or both, and believes that something will work despite the description of that aspect of the design, then the best thing would be to discuss it. This brief is intended as a guideline to facilitate the creation of an incorporeal, but real nonetheless, and marketable idea. From the brief a working interaction should develop between the writer of the idea and the designer who brings it to fruition. This situation will accumulate a monetary value as time spent on it unfolds, but that should not detract from the enjoyment that accompanies the development of a truly humorous Tshirt, or the company of people that strives to produce (at least) one. Graphic LayerGraphic LayerGraphic LayerGraphic Layer Field 2Field 2Field 2Field 2 Horizontal measurement: 80mm – 95mm The main focus of the design is the hand-drawn UFO graphic which is centred within the two font layers, more or less in the middle of the Tshirt. As mentioned, whereas the font is strict and riddled with straight lines, the UFO graphic is drawn with no real symmetry in mind, creating the impression of "innocence", but in such a way that the artistic integrity of the design remains unchallenged (obviously) but supports the entire concept on a symbolic level. The design should be tilted, from right to left, as depicted in the thumbnail. This indicates that the UFO is arriving, coming down to earth, and enforces the message carried by the font. The outline has to be the same colour and thickness of the font, implying a certain connection between the font layer and the graphic layer, an attempt to create harmony in face of contradiction, perhaps. The UFO should represent the most common and recognisable concept of what a UFO is, of what the human race-psyche thinks they should look like, given popular cult descriptions and sci-fi legend. With respect to the UFO graphic, and it being the integral part the design, Tshirt Terrorist requests from the designer more than one image of the UFO, so that the correct image, as envisioned within the context of this particular Tshirt idea, may be arrived at by a process of elimination.
