The Lamplighter February 2021 Volume 63 Number 2 ...from Pastor Dana to the People… Greetings in the name of our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! In the beginning of February we will continue our worship journey together through the church season of Sundays after Epiphany. Epiphany is a time of revealing and Gods Glory is revealed to us all through Jesuslife and ministry. By Jesusteachings and miracles Gods power and care for all people and creation are made known for all of us to see. Jesus continues to reveal God to us and continues to point people to God as the source of life, power, healing and salvation. In the Sundays after Epiphany sea- son we are also invited to continue to look at our own lives and how we might respond to this revelation of God to us. I am reminded of Gods Word from 1 Corinthians 12:4-8 in which we are taught; Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. This portion of Gods Word should be familiar to us all as it is used as part of the Liturgy when we install new Church Council Members of the Congregation. This portion of God's Word is not just for new Church Council Members however, it is really addressed to all of Gods people. It reminds us that we are all gifted in some way to do Gods work in Gods church, at home, at work, in our community of Terre Haute, and the world even in these sometimes difficult and trying pandemic times. I am reminded of the acrostic TEAM, which I understand has been used in the business world for awhile. At the heart of this acrostic message I believe that we can see the Biblical message of 1 Corinthians 12:4-8 coming through very clearly as well. T ogether E veryone A ccomplishes M ore Of course our work together is not about business world related work, but it is about doing Gods work and making Gods Kingdom known in our world today. Or put another way, sharing Christs love with our neighbors and making Disciples for Jesus Christ. Also in the month of February we will be entering into the Lenten season beginning with our Ash Wednesday Online Worship Service on February 17th at 7:00 pm and moving quickly towards Holy Week and Easter. Gods Peace, Protection, and Strength to you all, Pastor Dana Newhouse

Greetings in the name of our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

In the beginning of February we will continue our worship journey together through the church season of Sundays after Epiphany Epiphany is a time of revealing and Godrsquos Glory is revealed to us all through Jesusrsquo life and ministry

By Jesusrsquo teachings and miracles Godrsquos power and care for all people and creation are made known for all of us to see Jesus continues to reveal God to us and continues to point people to God as the source of life power healing and salvation In the Sundays after Epiphany sea-son we are also invited to continue to look at our own lives and how we might respond to this revelation of God to us

I am reminded of Godrsquos Word from 1 Corinthians 124-8 in which we are taught ldquoNow there are varieties of gifts but the same Spirit and there are varieties of services but the same Lord and there are varieties of activities but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common goodrdquo

This portion of Godrsquos Word should be familiar to us all as it is used as part of the Liturgy when we install new Church Council Members of the Congregation This portion of Gods Word is not just for new Church Council Members however it is really addressed to all of Godrsquos people It reminds us that we are all gifted in some way to do Godrsquos work in Godrsquos church at home at work in our community of Terre Haute and the world even in these sometimes difficult and trying pandemic times

Why We Lament

In 2020 the coronavirus pandemic struck America during the middle of Lent a season as-sociated with deprivation Some people made light of the shutdowns joking ldquoI didnrsquot mean to give up this much for Lentrdquo Others asked why the suffering was occurring in the first place

Professor NT Wright in an essay for Time explains that asking ldquowhyrdquo but receiving no an-swer is key to biblical lamenting Adding to the mystery he says is that God also laments mdash grieving at the wickedness of humans despairing over Israelrsquos unfaithfulness Jesus cries at a friendrsquos tomb the Holy Spirit groans in anguish

ldquoPart of the Christian vocationrdquo Wright con-cludes is not being able to explain why but la-menting instead ldquoAs the Spirit laments within usrdquo he says ldquoso we become even in our self-isolation small shrines where the presence and healing love of God can dwell And out of that there can emerge new possibilities hellip new hoperdquo

tion special occasion or recognition are most wel-come Gifts given in memory of a loved one or as a gift from an estate would be most gratefully received

The following gifts have been given to the glory of God by

The Organ Committee launched its pledge drive on Palm Sunday April 14 2019 with a goal of raising an additional $75100 toward the organ contract of $131710 This goal excludes estimated other costs of $30000 associated with the demolition and construc-tion project The fourth installment of $26250 (80 of this contract) is expected to be paid in March 2021 with on-site installation expected to begin in January 2022

At December 31 2020 $95445 in contributions had been received for the new organ This includes $5275 received from Christ Lutheran Church There now have been 15 pledges received with outstanding balances totaling $19112 We are now 77 of the way toward our fundraising goal The receipt of pledges and other contributions since April 14 2019 leaves a bal-ance left to raise of $17153 toward the goal A loan might not be necessary if we can reach this goal

Thank you to all who have made payments or pledges thus far By making payments toward a pledge commitment or making other regular payments we will have something concrete to show a bank or other lender should a loan be necessary

Each member of Trinity is asked to prayerfully con-sider pledging what they are willing to commit to giv-ing for this purpose through December 2022 Of course other payments are also very much appre-ciated The Organ Committee hopes that all Trinity members are inspired to give to this Pipe Dream We need your support It is perhaps one way that the people of Trinity can give honor and glory to God

CONTINUING NEEDS

ALL SAINTS PIANO amp ORGAN FUND

A fund was established on All Saints Day 2013 to encourage gifts toward the procurement of a piano or organ Gifts of any kind are appropriate for this fund Gifts in celebration of a birth birthday baptism con-firmation wedding or wedding anniversary gradua-

tion special occasion or recognition are most wel-come Gifts given in memory of a loved one or as a gift from an estate would be most gratefully received

Please complete organ pledge card and give it to Darrel Gosse Thank you for your consideration

Sincerely The Organ Committee
